View Full Version : I don't know what the problem is
Katey 04-28-2008, 06:41 PM Sebastian had a coupel of really good months, but for the last week or so he has been out of control again.
He has been biting everything. He is very dramatic about it and will clamp down really had on stuff and then pull on it. Today at music class he was chomping down on the big bungy band that everyone in the circle was holding. We were supposed to pull it back, but he was kept biting it.
He has been getting really hyper and then crashing . He wakes up crying every morning and after every nap. He has also been waking up at least once a night and crying for the last 5 nights.
He wont leave Emma alone. He is always pushing her and sitting on her and just messing with her. And he is being really rough and keeps hurting her.
I could go on and on.
He used to be like this all the time, but for the last few months were really good. He was sleeping all night and would wake up calling me, but not crying at all. He still had all his quirks and was his normal ‘busy’ self, but he was much more in control of himself and just all around pleasant.
I have no idea what made him be so good or what is setting him off now. I find that I have a lot less patients with him, now that I have seen how good he can be. But I know he is not just beign a brat. It is obvious that he is not in control when he starts acting out.
Thank God for Curious George. No matter how nutty he is getting he will always sit to watch George. It is the only way I was able to keep my sanity today.
Debbie 04-28-2008, 10:11 PM Do you think maybe he is eating something that isn't agreeing with him...I know he so restricted already ...but it just sounds like he's uncomfortable and doesn't know what to do......keep in mind gluten can cause a kid to be unbearable, crabby, clingy, mean....never seems happy....just something to consider???? maybe he's teething ...molars really hurt ?????? Jaydens ears made him behave like that....I don't know Kate...but they always keep us guessing don't they....hope you can figure it out and he's back to the sweety you know he is:hug:
Katey 04-28-2008, 11:49 PM The only thing I can think of that he went a while without eating is his turkey. He used to eat deli turkey all the time, but then he decided he only like the honey one and not the oven roasted. I had a freezer full of oven roasted and have been trying to get him to eat it, but he wont.
I finally gave up and bought him the honey turkey last week. I has probably been a couple of months since he had it, so that could be it.
I get the Hormel natural stuff and it says that it does not have anything in it, but it is not certifited organic, so I guess they can say whatever they want.
He also just had a sinus infection, so it may not have cleared up, or it could have gotten into his ears or something.
I just love the guessing game. I guess the good news is that it must be something environmetal that makes him act like that, since he was so good for a while. It is good to know that, that is not just the way he is.
AllieandJacksProudMama 04-29-2008, 08:23 AM Two things come to mind:
1. Is he back on that allergy med that made him crazy? I know that you thought that was a problem before.
2. Is his reflux under control? Allie was waking up screaming every single night for about 2 weeks, and when we upped her dose of meds back from 12 mg per day to 20 mg per day, this stopped (almost immediately).
I hope you get things figured out. I hate guessing games too, and with Allie - it's worse b/c she is so bad about telling us where it hurts or what is wrong.
Katey, to me, I think Sebastian doesn't feel well. I have to echo what Debbie and Christyn said...could it be teething? (esp because of the biting). Could it be pain from reflux? Could it be his allergy medication? Could it be the gluten? Could it be an ear infection? :hairpull: You may have to take him in to the Pediatrician for an evaluation especially if this behavior continues/worsens. I hope he feels better soon!
Katey 04-29-2008, 11:42 AM I know it is not teething he got his last 2 year molar about a month ago. I ruled out the allergy med, cuz he was back on it and doing fine and then we ran out and I had not gotten around to getting a refil, so he wa getting Zyrtec instead (he took that for months without and problems)
I really, really hope it is not reflux. He has been on 7.5mg of Prevacid for about 3 or 4 months now and doing just fine. When I try to take him off completly he starts having problems, but the 7.5 seemed to be enough to hold him.
Maybe with all the allergens out now it is making his reflux worse? He has not been as wild today, but he woke up twice last night crying and was up really early this morning. (he is probably too tired to be a brat today)
I think I will give him a couple more days and then take him in to the ped to get checked out. Just to make sure the sinus infection he had cleared up and did not turn into somethig else. I guess if he is healthy and still having problems then I will have to up his Prevacid again.:sad5:
I am not going to give him the turkey though and see if that makes a dif. I can not imagine what could be in it that would bother him, but it is the only thing that he has not had for a couple months and just started eating this week, so that is kind of coincidental.
Debbie 04-29-2008, 01:12 PM Keep in mind though Katey ...allergies can just pop up too....yippee fun :hissyfit:
I almost want to say reflux though....that is the only thing that wakes Jayden at night....he is a horrible sleeper to begin with, but tosses and turns all night even when he's not refluxing.....but reflux will wake him and have him crying, some Tums and he's back to sleep with in 10-15 mins most of the time...but we can hear it when he is doing this...can you hear him at all? What do you do when he wakes...how long is he up?
Oh bless his heart...poor Sebastian...:sad5:
You are doing some detective work with this one, Katey, I have to hand it to you...and of course you know your child best...hang in there...one way or another this will get figured out!

He usually only cries for 5 or 10 min, so i have just been leaving him. There have been a couple of times that he has really freaked out and I had to go in and sing to him for a while.
I am going to give him a little Zantac before bed to see if it helps at all. We both need a good nights sleep.

I was looking threw Steph med cabinet...and found some Zantac from when Jayden was tiny...so it's probably 1 1/2 years old ..would you think it's still good? Not that I want to use it but if he ever has a bad stretch like his last one ...it might come in handy.
Hope it works for Sebastian....but then that means it is reflux...I guess what ever it is it's a no win...poor kid:hug:
twinmom 04-29-2008, 05:49 PM Honey turkey would contain either honey or sugar. Honey is made by bees pollinating....
Not sure, just trying to figure out if maybe it is the sugar content...higher carb count

It should have an exp date on it. As long as it has not passed it should still be good. At one point the GI gave us a scrip with 6 refils on it, so I have been able to have some on hand. It is really nice for times like this when I am not sure and don't want to up the Prevacid, if he just needs to get over a little hump.
