Rylan has been wheezing and on the nebulizer for about a week now. I've brought him to the doctors twice since this started. First time just said hammer him w/ the nebulizer. Second time he had an ear infection and was wheezing so antibiotics and keep him on the nebulizer every 3-4 hours and once at night. Well today he was just not as active as he normally is. He would start wheezing when he was crawling around. Worse when he first wakes up and after naps. Not eating great, drinking alright. Should I take him back to the doctor tomorrow. Shouldn't he be better by now. He has no other symptoms anymore. Nose isn't running anymore, not really coughing, just the wheezing... what should I do? I hate running back and forth to the doctor, he probably already think I'm crazy. But I think that the nebulizer should have cleared him up by now, NO? thanks!

Melissa, I can't remember, are you giving Rylan Pulmicort through his neb? If not, I really think it is time to add in the inhaled steroid. Pulmicort is the most used in children. It is generally given twice a day, in addition to the albuterol or Xopenex. Either way, call the doc. Get him to order Pulmicort if you're not using it yet, or tell him that it's not working and ask about Orapred (oral prednisone). Either of these should resolve the wheezing faster.

Thanks Lori. Its funny because my pediatrician used to give Gabriel pulmicort when he was really little and hasn't mentioned it again since even with all their breathing issues. We have been on Orepred several times, I even have supply of it in my refrigerator. I just do not want to take it upon myself to give it to him. So maybe I will bring him in today, even though he sounds ok today. We will see. Thanks for your advice!
