Sebastian has an ear infection and a nasty cough. He gets upset when he coughs because it hurts, so he will hold back his coughs. You can hear all the ‘stuff’ in there, but he refuse to cough it up. It is going to make him sicker because he is not getting it out?
Truthfully, when his body needs to clear "it", it will. No matter how hard Sebastian tries to hold it back, he can't completely stop the cough. He might hold back some coughs, but not all, KWIM? Be sure to push clear liquids to help thin the congestion to make it easier for him to cough. You might also teach him (or help) him to splint his chest with a throw pillow or folded blanket when he coughs. When he's coughing, have him hug the pillow or blanket tight against his chest. That will help with the pain of coughing and maybe he will be less likely to try to hold back the cough.
Did the doc think the cough is a bacterial infection or viral? If it is a virus, it will clear on its own. If bacterial, the antibiotics will help to clear the "crud."

I don't mean to jump in on your thread - BUT - my husband is convinced that if he holds in his coughs he will not get sick. It makes me laugh every time. He thinks he can will his cough away. Mabye that is what Bash is doing??? :smt036
Sounds like he is really sick. I think you have done great though - his first course of antibiotics. That is really amamzing.

That is funny, Christine.:haha:
Thanks Lori, the doc did not hear him cough when he was there. He did a big one for the nurse and she comented on how bad he sounded.
As soon as he saw the ear was infected he just gave us a scrip and was on his way. I asked about the cough and he said he checst was clear.
It seems to be getting a little better, so hopefully the antibiotics are working.
The little boy I used to take care of had a neruological condition and he could not cough hard enough to really do much. He had pneumonia and was in the hospital for a whole week. They finally sent him home, but we had to do the percussion treatments every couple hours for another 2 weeks before it finally got cleared out. So when I heard Sebastian doing that wimpy little cough and not getting anything up, it made me nervous.
Katey, you mentioned the allergy problems Bash has been having. The cough could be from sinus drainage, rather than chest congestion (at least for now). Hopefully it will be better soon.
Christine, LMBO. Men??? What in the world do they think??
