My daughter is 2 and a half. She has phenomenal language, as observed by her ENT and ped. SHe speaks better than many 4 year olds, speaks 3 languages, counts to 100, reads and spells over 30 words, etc. etc. She definitely over compensated for her health in this area. SHe never did baby talk, pretty much went straight to words and prounounced well almost immediately.
She was very sick this last month- just got a very bad virus with sinus issues, fever, congestion. There has been a HUGE regression in behaviours, feeding, and now oral aversions are back in full swing (gagging and wretching at the site of the her milk, etc).
Here is my big concern. Out of nowhere, she no longer pronounces her L. Please is Prease, LaLa (her favourite tubby) is now WAWA, lion is wion...... She is not doing it for attention, as she has not been exposed to other babies who do this. SHe can make the L sound, cause she goes llll for the letter L. It is not a motor thing. She is teething and is congested, but i dont understand why she cant seemingly pronounce anymore. There are no loss of words or anything like that- but i am stilll worried.
My sister says her children have all done this when sick, go back to baby behaviour for attention, but they are both in daycare and have maybe learned this behaviour.
As an OT mom, i am entrigued and also probably overly concerned
Thanks for any insight
