I am not sure if this is a sensory thing, or just my kid being difficult. I had the hardest time getting Sebastian to dink rice milk out of a cup. Then when we were at my mom’s he latched on to one of her cups and was drinking really well. We took the cup home with us and things have been going great.

Well I was getting sick of washing and reusing the same cup all day, so I started looking for some other ones. It is a One Step Ahead cup that is just like the old Tupperware ones. Well Tupperware changed the top on there’s and One Step Ahead is no longer making this cup.:hairpull:

My mom found an online store that had a few left so she bought them all. We just got them yesterday and Sebastian was all excited when we opened the box. This morning I got them out of the dishwasher and let him pick the cup he wanted. He excitedly chose the blue one.

I filled it up and handed it to him and he freaked. He would not even touch it and started crying, “milk” After a few min of trying to convince him that is was milk, I gave up and poured it into his old cup. I tried to hand that to him and he totally freaked crying, “no, no... milk” I had to pour it back into the container and let him watch me pour it from the container into his yellow cup. Then he was as happy as can be and ran of drinking his milk.

Any ideas on how to get him to give the new cups a try?

No help here, but I am laughing out loud at this because when you guys were at our house last time, Sebastian wouldn't drink out of the milk "juice box" thing so you had to pretend to go over to our fridge and act like you got it out of there and then pour it in his cup. :)

All I can say is at least your kid will drink milk!!

With Jason, if it is not a green sippy cup, he won't drink it. Nuby has the soft spout and the hard spout....he'll drink it if it is green! A Nuby in any other color, he won't touch.

Have you tried any other cups in the same color as the one that he likes?

His cup is a see through yellow. One of the new cups is yellow, but now see though. I am going to try that one and see if he will notice the slight diference in color.

Just one more thing to add to the list of things that have to be 'just so' I guess.

And I'd also say it's a little bit of just being two years old. I can't tell you how many sippy cup phases we have gone through with Josh - enough to fill a drawer in his closet with the rejects!

:haha: I know I shouldn't be laughing because you're clearly frustrated, but your story CRACKED me up! I wish I had some advice to offer you, but Roman is similarly difficult with accepting milk from a cup (he'll still only drink it from a bottle :sad3: ). Just wanted to say thanks for brightening my day. Sebastian is funny!

You should be thrilled that you found one that works!! Arghhh!! I have over 30 sippy cups- no kidding, i swear, and she will just take a sip or two but no more. Everyone tells me to take her bottle away and force her. Last week after a fulll day of her drinking NOTHING and her being on the floor all lethargic, i said the hell with this.

I do think it is a sensory thing, a comfort thing, a control toddler thing. If anyone can help us i would appreciate it cause i am sick of the glares. She looks four, but is only 2 and a half, and will still usually only drink lying on us for comfort. it is downright embarrassing, but considering this week i spent two days syringing water in her to prevent hospitalization (the sick bed) , i guess bottles are not soo bad

Sorry- did not mean to barge in on your thread but i can soooo relate. Congrats on the one cup that does work and lets hope it will work for a while

SOme moms have told me to forgo the sippy and go right to the glass- but choking is still too much of an issue here

Good luck

That is how Sebastian was forever. We just got him off the bottle last month. It made a big dif when we switched from Neocate to rice milk. I think the Neocate did not task good she he would rather have it in the bottle where he would not taste it as much.

I hope you will find a cup that will work for Maiya. It is so nice to be done with the bottles.

I would say for some time it will be the one and only sippy cup....Jayden will not drink any liquid that is not clear and if he as any suspicion I am trying to fake him out with milk he freaks out and wont take any sippy cup for hours....they are just little turds....and yes we jump threw hoops all day long for them

Katey,
I don't have much to offer in the form of advice , but can offer my empathies!! Been there, done that. For us it was a combo of normal toddler behavior and a child who very much didn't like change. To this day, at 6-years old, his life is very predictable and doesn't like us to change the rutine or products in the house. :angry7: He eats the same breakfast everyday, the same lunch (ham sandwhich on wheat with a generous portion of miracle whip and a juice box.......one variation will result in him not eating it!!), but will tolerate variety at dinner....Thank God!:smt036 My dd Emma is 2.5 and is a tad better. She in general is more flexible and relaxed about life, but even still can have her idiosyncrasies (only wants the blue paci, the purple blankie, and curious george better be on every morning!!) :evil4:. Hang in there, and good luck!
