At almost 4 years and 5 months old Maggie is now SUCKING HER THUMB?!?
I was wondering if it's reflux related but she says it just tastes good.

I am assuming that this is something that she just started?

I know that when I sucked my thumb as a child it was a comfort thing. Actually, DH swears that I still suck my thumb in my sleep. I know for me personally, it is stress and comfort related. I don't even realize that I do it in my sleep. My DH always know when the stress level has reach it's breaking point, because I will, in my sleep, suck my thumb. I did this as a child - mainly when I slept. I used to have this HUGE welt on the side of my thumb, where I sucked it when I was a kid.

Is is making her teeth come out of alignment?? I know it really screwed with mine, and I had to have braces in order to right the damage that I had done.

Yes she's in preschool but I don't think she's trying it out. For the past week or so I've been catching her absentmindedly sucking her thumb or one of her fingers. Just sitting there playing with a thumb in her mouth.

maybe she finds its helps her keep swalloing the reflux back down, i know when miki doesnt have a dummy in she refluxes a whole lot more, she swallows before it actualy gets to her mouth when she has her dummy in but if she doesnt it all comes out

That makes a lot of sense Amy! I think you've got something there. I just told dh and he thinks you're right too. She's in a reflux flare right now.

I was going to mention that Jayden is always sucking on his fingers right now with his reflux being so bad....he is very sloppy about it too....lots of drool.....I bet thats why she is just looking for some comfort...poor baby:hug:
