With Thanksgiving only days aways (I am already anticipating the warmth that a turkey in the oven bring to my house), I was curious as if anyone had any traditions that they would like to share? Big, Small, food or otherwise....

I'll get us started:

My family has come to expect me to make a pumpkin roll each year.....as silly and simple as it sounds, my little sisiter has been asking just about everyday since the beginning of November, if I am going to make this treat. It's the simplest thing, just a homemade pumpkin sponge like cake filled with my yummy homemade cream cheese frosting. Just the smell of the finished products is enough to raise anyone's sugar level.

Also, there is something about seeing my family all seated around the table (usually if we are all home, there is anywhere from 18 to 25 of us), that brings great joy to my heart. I realize that it is a rare treat these days, to be able to be surronded at the holidays by grandparents, parents, sisters/brothers, aunt/uncles, cousins and the like, with all that is going on in this world. I always like to take the time to reflect on the fact that I am truely blessed to have such a loving and supportative family, and one that is not seperate by time or miles.

Come on ladies...share with me the traditions of your families......

We dont have any traditions yet, other than driving four hours to spend the day eating and visiting with family.

Though this year is our first year in our own house so we will begin decorating for Christmas this coming weekend! Then my mother is coming for a very short visit next week and will help us decorate the tree and cook up some yummy treats to freeze. She makes the BEST perogi's! I cant wait to make a ton and freeze them up to have for the next month! lol :)

Anyway, thats pretty much it for Thanksgiving... I get to be around way too much food I can not phyiscally eat but enjoy myself anyway! :)

I shared mine in my thread Our early Thanksgiving...LOL:smt036
I used to ask everyone to share what they were thankful for..but got really lame answers so I stopped doing it....
My family ...immediate family likes a very traditional dinner, nothing new that everyone pretends to like and then complains about on the way home...LOL
I am so looking forward to a calm dinner with the kids:smt036

Perogis are a staple of Henry's diet. My mil makes them - but the frozen ones are pretty good.

We have both of our famlies in the same town, so we have a lot of dinners. This year we are going to Jim's mom's on Wed then on Thursday we will eat at his Dad and Stepmom's around noon and at My mom's at 6:00. My dad's side of the family will be at that dinner. Then on Saturday we rent a hall and have a dinner with my mom's side of the family. We used to do it at my grandpa's house which I liked a lot better, but now that all the kids are getting married and having kids of their own it is just to many people.

It is really crazy, but I love it. We really get out monies worth out of the holiday!

Jim's family just does whatever when it comes to food, but my family is big on tradition. Everyone makes the same dish every year. My aunt brought pies insted of her fruit salad one year and everyone was devistated, because they were looking forward to the fruit salad. She learned very quickly that she married into a family that does not do well with change:smt036

Well the only recipe I have written down is the dough one and my mom uses "farmers cheese" or something like that in the filling... she says it's a very dry cheese. When she comes I will get some filling recipe's from her but here is the dough one! BTW she has a Ukranian background but she is very NOT lol.

Perogi Dough
4 Cups Flour
1/4 tsp Salt
1 1/2 Sticks Butter
3 Beaten Eggs
4 TBS - Heaping - Sour Cream

Mix it all together and roll it and cut out the circles, then fill em and boil em then she frys them in butter and onions!! Mmmmmm
