Hi, Lilly's coughing is back in full swing (she always has a cough, uri's, rattling of the chest, etc...). I took her to the dr on tues for it & he said it sounded like pnuemonia in L lung & ear infection (surprise, surpirse! She hadn't had any for the 3 months after her tube placement, but now they are back in full swing-almost every 2-3 weeks like when she was 9 months-17 months) So, the doc ordered a chest x-ray & it wasn't pnuemonia, but bronchial scarring???? He was surprised. I had just talked to him about CF testing, but he kind of blew it off- old school doc who hadn't ever seen her before or her records. So, next apt w/reg doc, I'm going to request it. ANYWAYS, what is it & should I be concerned & is it a symptom of CF?
Thanks!
Katie

It's not really a symptom of CF, per se. Bronchial scarring is most likely from chronic inflammation due to frequent bouts of pneumonia or bronchitis. You may also hear it called fibrosis (not to be confused with CF). This can be controlled with steroids like Medrol or prednisone, or with singulair. Minimizing recurrent pneumonia or bronchitis can help to control further scarring.
