I had that surgery in August (the end of august) and well, I have been coughing up dark green stuff since then, and well I have pnemonia, and have went through 3 rounds of antibiotics.....
What do you think the chances are that I could have got MRSA in my lungs from surgery??? I am really starting to get worried... I should have kicked this by now! The day after surgery was when I started coughing up stuff.... and my inhaler is my best friend (never happend like that before I never ever ever used an inhaler but once a year, I get an "annual case" of pnemonia that only last about 2 weeks).... the last antibiotic I was on was leviquin 750mg bid....

Ooo, that does sound sort of suspicious. Do you know, were you a carrier before surgery? If so, the ETT could definitely have been a pathway for a nice MRSA VAP, KWIM? (Could I use more letters there??? ) Also, don't rule out pseudomonas - dark green brings that to mind. Have you had a gram stain and culture done? If not, do so. If Levaquin didn't knock it, it definitely has a strong foothold and you probably need the sensitivity to get the best antibiotic.

Geesh, this has been a long time that you've been dealing with this. I hope it's over soon.

Thanks... it doesn't have that pseudomonas smell, I'd reconize that one anywhere... (yes I smellled it yuck...)... no I haven't had a sputum for c and s Im going to have to get that done... I guess tonight at work Ill get the er doc to order one for me to find out what the heck is growing in there.... its really bugging me.... I know w/ me being a resp therapist and always around mrsa that my chances of being a carrier are huge! and then my mother had mrsa recently also on top of that so it wouldn't just be the chances from just the hospital giving it to me... those buggers just found a nice little pathway down the et tube.... (hopefully not MRSA) (mom said that those antibiotics are dreadful!)).......

Thanx!!

I hope it's not MRSA. Vanc and anything else strong enough to knock it are vicious (hello, C. dif). Let me know what the C&S shows. I hope you're over this soon.
