I'm not even sure if I should be posting here. D is old enough, but he's been off of his zantac since spring; of course he still suffers from behaviors developed from reflux -- i.e. not eating enough... which is way better than not eating at all!

Anyway, today was D's four-year checkup. He was 34.2 pounds (I forget the percentile) and 39.5 inches (40th percentile). Our ped said 50th %tile for four-year-olds is 40 pounds and 40 inches. Apparently, D had lost some weight since our last appointment many months ago, but I remember he was really constipated when he weighed in at 36 pounds. (But I was still thrilled about that number and for awhile even had it in my sig line, though eventually I had to admit it was not a true weight.) But the ped is not concerned -- D is very healthy and progressing well developmentally.

The nurse checked his hearing (he had to say "beep" when he heard the sound in his ear) and his eyesight (he had to name shapes on the chart, and got further than I could even with my contacts in). Then she told us he needed four shots -- and he heard her. Ack! The anticipation was way worse than the shots! Did you guys know they're now recommending a second chicken pox booster? But supplies are low and the ped didn't have any, or my poor guy would've gotten five shots!

Afterwards, we went straight to the ENT for a checkup and learned that one of the ear tubes placed in May is already coming out. If D continues to have ear problems, they'll place semi-permanent tubes next time. Sigh....

Fortunately, the rest of our day should be fun -- a playdate at the park and a volleyball game.

Hi

Glad to hear everything is going well
Zach has his 4 yr check up the end of the month (i think he weighs about 33 pounds, but is a shorty)
I didn't know he has to get 4 shots...yuck...plus the flu shot?

Hope everyone enjoyed the rest of the day

Ali didn't weigh 34 pounds until she was 5 years old (she was 29 pounds at 4 years old) She was still below the 10th percentile but following her own curve and developing well so it wasn't a concern for her doctor or us.

D's four shots included a flu shot, so, yes, it would've been five if all of them were available!

I remember being 50 pounds when I was eight and DH is small, too, so I have no illusions that D will ever hit the 50th percentile!

Great check-up other than the shots, Becky!

BTW ... I hit 40 lbs between my 6th and 7th years, and I'm an average-sized adult.

Wow Becky.
I didn't realize he had been off medicine for so long! WOOT WOOO!:yahoo:
for that one.
I remember Emilia had to have 4 shots at 4 years old too :(
They were way cool about it and had 2 people giving the shots on each leg so it was over before she even realized.
I had no idea they recommended a chicken pox booster so soon. we were told with Emilia she may or may not need one a age 12. hummmmm.... (it was brand new when she got it and they didn't know yet)
as for the percentiles. Emilia just made it to 50lbs just last year. I think she was 8 when she hit 40. Yeah, kinda a bummer that his weight went down, but I think it may actually be a somewhat "normal" thing this time. He's doing so well, and he looks fabulous. I'm still in awe over how much he's accomplished since I met you. Especially this last year or so.
Daniel is a success story if I ever saw one, and I'm sure he gives a lot of hope for people who went without proper treatment for their child for too long. I know he makes me feel better about it all, and we only had to wait 2 months for a diagnoses.
(((BIG HUG)))

YOU ROCK DANIEL!

Sounds like a great visit. But Oh my on all of the shots!

Not much to report can sometimes be a good thing.
