View Full Version : Favorite magazines?
kimber 09-18-2007, 05:09 PM hey ladies
What mags, if any, are u getting and enjoying reading?
I haven't had a mag subscription since the kids were born, but was thinking of getting 1-2 delivered to have some light reading during the day
Any thoughts?
I enjoy reading my Nutrition Action and Bottom Line Personal newsletters. *nerd alert!*
I also get Cookie, WonderTime and Lucky magazines--I do flip through Wonder Time and really like it. I'm letting my subscriptions to Cookie and Lucky expire, though. No time.
AvasMommy 09-18-2007, 06:23 PM I've always really liked Self and People, and dh and I are both National Geographic nerds. The only thing he ever really reads is BAMS...The Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society. LOL, I get to read Highlights and some of the teaching math magazines for school. Woohoooooo, and stuff, huh? :evil4:
I bet that was REALLY what you were looking for, Kim!
stephiehatt 09-18-2007, 07:58 PM I love People magazine and all the various mail order magazines I get in the mail. I am a junkie, about 99% of the time I never order anything from them but I tend to hoard them for months.
My other fave mail reads are my mothers of multiples newsletters from the local, state and national organizations and my parenting mags since I had kids. I do like to read Time magazine to keep up on politics and current events but I don't always have a lot of time to read the whole articles with the concentration they sometimes require.
ConnorsMommy 09-18-2007, 08:05 PM OOOOH I am addicted to magazines (lol) As of right now I get People which is my fav, Parents, and Parenting. If you like all the Hollywood gossip and some other good stories, People is a good one ( a little $$ though since it comes every week)
JennyLynn 09-18-2007, 08:22 PM I too love magazines!!! Right now I get Cosmo (I really like it and so does dh  ), Parents, Parenting, and US weekly. I do tend to buy People and another one every now and then.
AvasMommy 09-18-2007, 08:43 PM I do have to admit, I have also been known to buy a trash magazine or two...especially while I was laid up this summer. I couldn't get enough Ok!, In Touch, Us Weekly, or any of that other crap, even though they all say the same thing. I can be a bit of a celeb gossip hound.
LOL, I get People and read it all every week. I like it...DH knows it too...he gets the mail on Friday and marches in, hollering..guess what I have in my hands....yep, it's sad.
Christine 09-18-2007, 08:49 PM I love Vanity Fair. Sometimes a little too off to the left for me - but there are some great in depth articles. Not one to flip thru but to sit down and read. I also get Glamour and Cosmo - flipper mags.
I must add, i also get Opah (LOVE IT), Parents, Parenting, Womans Health, Runner World and that's about it. But I do read them all and like them all. :)
Emily M 09-19-2007, 08:25 PM I get Parents and American Baby, I buy a ton at Walmart on my weekly trip. ROFL
I like the celeb gossip ones, Us, Star, etc.
I also LOVE LOVE LOVE mail order catalogs.
Miori 09-20-2007, 01:07 AM I get Parents and Parenting...just got a great offer for Redbook and Good Housekeeping - both for $12! :party0049:
I LOVE People and pick it up often at the store. Real Simple is a big fav of mine too...super relaxing and an easy read.
But, in the effort of saving money - I've discovered that my library will now let you check out magazines. Five at a time, just not the current issue. Still, it's been a fun way to check out new mag's for free!
Sad to say, but one thing that helps keep me motivated to go to the gym is getting to read the rag mags while I'm on the elliptical. :evil4: LOL They usually have People, US, OK! and Star. :smt041
I don't have any mag subscriptions right now, but in the past I've had Reader's Digest (but I accidentally ordered the LARGE PRINT version and DH STILL teases me about that sometimes!) and I've always wanted to get Games magazine. I usually buy Penny Press or Dell puzzle mags at the grocery store every couple of months. I like to read TV Guide, too.
Kristenrn23 09-20-2007, 09:35 AM I love peole and all the gossip magazines as well.. Rob always buys them for me when he goes to the store lol. I also love house magazines anything with decorating.. i also subscribed to wondertime (thanks mary) cuz she mentioned it in one of her threads and i like it. got my first one the other day lol. I like scrapbooking magazines. I also love the paula deen :) her recipes rock!
I read People when I get a chance. I have Parents, Parenting, and American Baby delivered to the house. I am also subscribing to Wondertime (on Mary's suggestion), but haven't gotten it yet. I also enjoy Car&Driver and Road&Track (I know, I'm a car nut). I have a stack of RT journals that I haven't even touched, but I feel "required" to keep them on the theory that "sometime" I will catch up on all the latest research and trends. **not holding my breath on that one**
manda40475 09-20-2007, 11:26 AM My only active subscription right now is to OK! Magazine, but I am literally 6 months behind on reading them (and they come weekly!!!). I just don't have the time because my free time is usually spent on the computer. LOL I used to get Star, but it was a freebie. My guilty pleasure at the checkout is People, but it's so pricey that I only buy a handful a year. When I was younger I read Cosmopolitan and Redbook.
Dh has a subscription to ESPN and also enjoys Entertainment Weekly.
stephiehatt 09-20-2007, 11:36 AM LOL, I get People and read it all every week. I like it...DH knows it too...he gets the mail on Friday and marches in, hollering..guess what I have in my hands....yep, it's sad.
No reason to be ashamed, you are not alone! I know, I had a subscription for awhile and let it run out, I was trying to kick the habit but with all this Britney/Paris/Lindsay mess I am buying it all the time again so i should probably get subscription. I am on their site all the time though so I keep up to speed that way!
LOL, about your DH though, that's funny!

That's like my various HR mags, I never get around to reading them and then a new issue comes and I throw the old one out (that was never read) and replace it on my desk w/the new one. That will probably go unread too. But it looks like I am up on current HR practices if someone walks in my office! :haha: And in this job, it's all about perception!
Like Christine, I love Vanity Fair. However, Conde Nast Traveler is my Fave. I dream about all the great adventures Bella will have one day and wonder if she would rather eat Thai, Indian, French, Greek or Morrocan food over the bland, tasteless, albeit organic, food that she currently refuses. I also get Elle Decor, Cookie and I've got some wonderful recipes from Veg Times and Cooking Light. Can you tell my desk is covered in mags? Ahhh, the poor rainforest.
eaglemansbaby1124 09-20-2007, 03:03 PM I get Parents,Parenting and American Baby. American baby is someitmes a free subscription.
Miori 09-20-2007, 05:02 PM American baby is someitmes a free subscription.
I got a freebie to Parenting last year. Bought one in the store and it included a card for a free subscription, plus one for a friend. So, I think I paid about $3 for a year of them, plus a friend got them too.
I used to get American Baby during Josh's first year of like. Good info for that first year.

Nope, not sad at all...or if it is, then I'm sad too! :smt036 My gym usually has US Weekly and People. They are a super easy read while on the elliptical and make the time go by so fast!
