I was reading in you other post about decongestants not being recomended for little ones. Could you tell me why?

Sebastian's allergist put him on Rynatan (we got the generic, C-Phed Tanna). I was surprised to see that is has an antihistamine and a decongestant. He does not even have any nasel allergy symptomes, so I am not sure why he thought a decongestant was necessary.

We had decided not to give it to him twice a day like the allergist said. I was just going to used it when he had a rash, or other obvious allergy symptoms, but now I am not sure I want to give it to him at all.

Katey, if the decongestants are prescribed by a physician, they are fine. The problem was "unexplained" fatalities related to the OTC decongestants and cold medications. My personal view is that they were probably improperly used. My pediatrician recommended Children's Sudafed or Tylenol Cold, etc for Brenna today. You just have to be sure to use them properly and with a physician's guidance.

Here is a link to the information endorsed by the FDA and the AAP.

Thanks Lori, that makes me feel better. I still am not going to give it to him every day. I just don't think he needs it. I will ask the allergist at his next apt, why he went with this med. Thanks again!
