View Full Version : Have you ever met someone famous?

I have met two famous people, the first one was

1. Harry Connick Jr. He was HOT, HOT, HOT that is all I can say. Before I actually saw him I didn't think much of him, but in person he just had this thing about him, I was only about 21, and was at a casino where he had been playing that night, and my mum (I was on holiday in Queensland with her) dared me to get his autograph, he was so nice about it... LOL

2. I met your President Clinton. He was in Perth doing a speech/seminar tour, and my mum and dad were invited to go to the dinner, they were actually away, so we got the tickets, he was such a good speaker, and really passionate about what he beleived in.

And much to Chris's (Emilys dh) horror, I have a photo with him. This is quite a funny story but I took a camera with me, and when we went to go up, we realised it was FLAT rofl, so Dan ran over to the hotel lobby and bought a disposable camera (isn't he sweet) and took the picture, President Clinton was also really nice, and stood there for ages for the photo, but Dan didn't know how to use the camera :rolling: so he got him when he was looking away.

So here is the pic, this was taken about 5 and a half years ago, I was pregnant with Cooper about 4 months.

Hi

I've 'met' a weird bunch

1. Donnie and Marie Osmand...don't ask...LOL

2. Michael Jackson...didn't really meet him, but I saw him UP CLOSE...not what I expected!

A few others, but can't think of anyone else now?

Chris is horrified that you had your pic taken with Bill Clinton? That makes two of us. :smt036 Nice pic, though, Rach!

I've met a few--when I first moved to NYC I was surprised at how many people you see just walking around!

1. Jennifery Lopez & Puff Daddy (when they were dating). Dan and I were walking through Central Park with friends when we saw those two come through. They were with their beefy bodyguards, but we still got autographs. (for the record--I liked Puff Daddy, now P. Diddy, but didn't like J. Lo.)

2. Robin Williams. Again, I was walking through the city and saw him go through with his bodyguards. Didn't meet him, but was close enough to touch!

3. Woody Allen. He's no big deal around here--EVERYONE sees him!

4. Sarah Jessica Parker. She and Matthew Broderick live around the corner from my SIL's salon. She is SO SUPER NICE and her little boy is adorable!

5. Star Jones. She was hosting a dinner we attended (It was an AIDS fundraiser). Yuck. Hated her. She's SO RUDE!!!

6. Karsh Kiraly. He's a major dude in the volleyball world. My husband (an avid volleyball player) almost passed out! :-)

7. Several of the NY Giants foortball players. They lived in the Hudson Tea building in Hoboken--just down from where we lived before we moved. Dan used to get excited and chat with them; however, I wasn't that thrilled. They look much better on TV. Really.

8. Angelina Jolie. For the record, I can't stand her. We were in Greece and waiting to disembark onto Santorini; however, we were delayed 3 HOURS because she and her group were coming through. Apparently, they were filming some scenes for one of the Tomb Raider movies. To make up for it, she signed autographs. I did NOT stand in line to get one. Yuck. Ick.

9. Michael Imperioli. He used to go to the same deli I did in NYC. We'd see him there all the time but I was too shy to ask for his autograph. He is really cute in person...and really, REALLY nice!

10. Joey Pants (Pantalione--I probably totally misspelled that). Another Sopranos guy. He was from Hoboken and was at the local pizza joint all the time. He acts so much like a regular guy that unless you'd seen the Sopranos, you'd never look twice. :-)

That's all.

Hey he wasn't our president ROFL I do know that politics is something you don't bring up with Americans though L:rolling:

and OMG on all the people you have met, we don't get that many in Perth. No famous people walking our parks :rolling:

Actually I thought of another one, when I was in high school, I was at McDonalds with my sister and we saw Tone Loc, getting a Big Mac (you know Funky Cold Medina)

Oh and I went to school with Heath Ledger, but probably doesn't count, he wasn't famous then.

James' clothes are high fashion. No joke--those ratty t-shirts are over $75 apiece. :-(

I'm with you--I would much prefer to see him in adorable children's clothing...not worn-out Clash t-shirts. :-(

I met Sarah Jessica Parker in NYC at Nobu, she was sitting at a table next to ours, having dinner wtih friends. Super nice lady. Loved her.

I saw Michael Jordan at Kentucky derby, did not talk to him. But I did not really care.

I was hoping to see Oprah at the derby, but her quarters were surrounded by body guards so thick, that we gave up trying. LOL.

I went to Madonna's concert in NYC and gave her a rose, I was a big fan, so I can say I did see her upclose.

That's all for me. :)

Ok, you guys are going to be SEETHING with jealousy. I have you ALL beat.

I have met, and not just gotten close to them...actually talked to....

The entire Duke family, Boss Hogg, Roscoe P. Coltrane, and Eenus!!!!

:haha: :haha: :haha: :haha:

My hometown is called Hazard. Every year since the late 60's they have a huge festival. It's called the Black Gold Festival :smt036 . Not a reference to oil as in the Beverly Hillbillies, but to coal, because this area of the state is a huge coal mining area. Anyway, it's not a huge festival, though they usually some how manage to get pretty popular country music artists to do the concert they have every year. Even Garth Brook's-didn't meat him but my uncle is a cop and was part of the security detail and he said he was a jerk!.

Anyway, onto the Duke boys and Daisy. Given that they were the "Dukes of Hazzard", and we were a town called Hazard, they brought them to ride through the parade that happens every Saturday during the festival. This was at the height of the popularity of the show and I was a little kid of course, and totally in love with Bo Duke :smt036 . Boss Hogg, Roscoe and Eenus drove Boss's huge white convertible with the steer horns on the front and of course the Duke's drove the General Lee. Uncle Jessie and Daisy drove her jeep. So the Duke boys are singers too I guess and they did a concert. My uncle, as previously mentioned, was a cop and I got to meet them all. Got to hug Bo and Luke. Boss Hogg patted my head and Roscoe as well. Eenus was the sweetest and picked me up and just packed me around a bit. Daisy-she was high as a kite the whole time and they practically had to hold her up. The city ended up asking that she not every come back to future festivals-and she didn't.

So that's pretty much the jist of my exposure to famous people. :haha:

Are y'all jealous or what?

I cashed a check for John Mahoney (Say Anything and Frasier) when I was a bank teller in Forest Park, IL. He lived in River Forest (an upscale Chicago suburb bordering Forest Park) and I knew he had an account at our bank because I had heard he came in sometimes just like a regular Joe to do his banking.

Sure enough, he walked in one day alone and happened to come to my window. I recognized him immediately but didn't have the nerve to acknowledge who he was because he was being so "normal" that I didn't want to bug him. He cashed a check from some studio and was very nice. And technically, since he cashed a check, I DID get his "autograph", just not personally for ME. LOL

And before you ask...I don't remember how much the check was for ($500, maybe?) and I don't remember what his bank balance was...;-)

And Melissa, when I was in second or third grade, I would have been totally jealous because I, too, was madly in love with BO DUKE! I'll fight you for him! :box2: ROFL

Melissa, too funny about DOH! My DH met Daisy Duke when he was like 10 at the Chicago Auto Show. He was over the moon when he got her autograph. He still loves to talk about it to this day!

Mary, I am so jealous, I guess living near NYC you get to see/meet lots of celebs. That's cool.

I have only met one local celeb "Big Cat" Williams, he played for the Chicago Bears and was pretty famous. I used to work at Musicland at our mall in high school and college and he lived in the town so he would come in a lot. Very nice guy, VERY BIG!

I have also seen several Chicago Bulls players, being in the north burbs of Chicago, a lot of them live here (including Michael Jordan). I sat next to Scottie Pippen in TGI Friday's when I was in college eating dinner there w/some friends. I also have seen Bill Cartwright a few times at Panera Bread by my office because he lived in Deerfield, which is where I work. I know I have seen some others but it's meaningless to me (well Michael Jordan would be cool) b/c I am not a sports nut.

But I haven't met anyone movie star/politician celebs. Oh, and Rach, love your pic w/ Bill Clinton, and LOL about Em's DH dying when he saw that picture, that does sound about right from what Em has said about his political views. My BF can't stand him either, she is a die-hard Republican though.

I'm still waiting to bump into George Clooney on the street some day. That would be a dream come true!

Wow, my "one" encounter pales in comparison to the ones listed already (good gravy, Mary, you have met them all!) but here goes:

I work in a very nice part of town. At the deli near work one day, I ran into Steve Yzerman (former caption of the Detroit Red Wings). Apparently, he lives around the corner.

Can I just say what a BABE he is and how nice he was? He talked hockey with me for a while and then when he left, he said "nice to meet you." He went out of his way to be nice to me. I could have died. I think he is the hottest hockey player ever, and I am a HUGE hockey fan.

That's it. Probably not important to most, but it was great for me!!!!!

PS - I am with Mary and Emily on the Bill Clinton thing. Ewwwwwwww!!! But, I guess I'd rather meet him than his wife!!!!!

I did see the beach boys in concert about 8 years ago in MI.

Well, my Dad has been a studio musician in LA all my life so I've been around Hollywood-types all my life.
Not sure if I can remember all of it, but I'll give it a go - and try not to go too overboard, lol:

My Dad was an extra in Danny Romaloti's band on Y & R in the late 80's and I got to be in the audience for the concert that they filmed. I've got a pic of me while Danny (Michael Damian), who was super nice, and I also met Cricket and Nina. Nina met her future husband that day - another extra/musician who played the guitar and was a buddy of my dad's so I saw her a few more times at bbq's, etc. Super nice lady - Cricket (Christine Bell) was not very nice.

My dad did a Jerry Lewis telethon on year when I was about 6 and he's got a picture of me with the Solid Gold Dancers, lol!

Barry Manilow - my Dad was at his home doing some recording work in his studio, and I swam in Barry's pool while they worked. Pool was shaped like a grand piano, lol.

I got to go backstage at concerts that he played at a lot and met the stars: Debbie Gibson, Wierd Al

Miles Davis & Chaka Khan - my dad's band was the opening act for them at the Montreax Jazz Festival.

Any other jazz fans - Dave & Don Gruisin are good friends of my Dad's. Kenny G is a jerk and not my Dad's friend anymore - no loss there.

Ok - I'll stop there, lol - feels like my list could go on and on and on....

Bill Clinton sure gets around (in more than one way). My dh had his pic taken with him on the street in Palo Alto the day Chelesa gratuated from Stanford. The whole family was walking down the street, and Bill was shaking hands, and I snapped a pic with my DH.

Some local athletes. Kurt Warner - Rams QB, Jim Edmunds - Cardinal CF. My brohter-in-law does sports raido in STL.

Rick Pitino and Tubby Smith - both former UK Men's Basketball coaches

Jon Brennan - Country singer of MTV "The Real World" fame

John Michael Montgomery - Country singer - Actually met him in Walmart one night when he ran in to get something. The people standing around said he was in there often and was really nice, so I asked him for his autograph. He was wearing sweats. LOL He did leave in a nice new big pick-up truck though. This was in 2001.

Jarred from Subway commercial fame. LOL When I worked at city hall, he was in town for some kind of deal with Subway and the health department promoting nutrition. We all went downstairs for the free food and really didn't pay any attention to him.

My mom worked with Aaron Tippin, another country singer, many years ago. I never got to meet him, but he did wind up marrying a woman from that area. That's all I can think of at the moment.

I wait on Dick Vitale all the time. I met Michael Jordan in a gas station here when he had that brief baseball career...remember?:evil4: Hmmmm...lots of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers around town. Dick Smothers lives here and comes in every Sunday. Brian Johnson lives here, met him quite a few times. Met Jerry Springer, he lives here too. Stephen King is around quite a bit, he has a (massive) house on Casey Key. And believe it or not, our tiny little Sarasota International Film Festival brings in some big names in the early spring...different every year.

I guess my favorite famous person I met since I love poetry was Maya Angelou I have met her 2 times, once when I was in jr high and the other time when I was college age.
I had the pleasure to sit down and speak with her when I was in college..
I have also got to meet the famous forensic anthropologist DR Bass he is a very interesting person to talk to by the way... I went to a convention he put on and wen tto a book signing a few years later (I had to park next to his "body farm" where I worked at at UT Med center in knoxville)
that is all the "famous" people I have met...
I have seen people from a distance like R Kelly in Chicago.. stuff like that...

Melissa, I am insanely jealous! :favorites21: I feel like my life is less than complete as I have not met Boss Hogg. :ANYWORD: It sure figures about "Daisy" as I do recall reading something about her being a bit of a wild gal and I do also recall her trying to insure her legs for about 1 million dollars. **wonders if I could get $1.95 for my legs...**

Angela, I am very jealous of you as well. I have been so moved by Maya Angelou and remember the first time I read "I Know Why The Cage Bird Sings". It must have been incredible to have a private audience with her.

Hmmm, people I have met...

Boutros Boutros Ghali (sp?) just after he retired from being the head of the United Nations and his lovely wife. It was at an incredible party where I had the elastic on my slip snap and drop on the floor in front of a few hundred dignitaries. That was a FUN night. :hairpull:

Prime Minister Jean Cretien. Mind you, he was not Prime Minister way back then, only a lowly cabinet minister. Also met and do remember former Prime Minister Pierre Eliot Trudeau, his wife Maggie, and the Privy Council. (big whoop... **wonders if Melissa is now jealous of ME!** lol)

King Hussein of Jordon pinched my cheeks and I threatened to bite him when I was a toddler apparently. (Dad was with External Affairs).

Brian Kilrea, head coach of The Ottawa 67s. He helped me to ensure my friends son was safe in the bathroom at a restaurant. lol Funny guy.

Weird Al Yankovic. Saw him in concert and he sat on my lap, sang a few stanzas of "One More Moment" to me, wiped his armpits with a scarf he had and put it around my neck. Somewhere, I still have the scarf. Mom was not impressed with him as when he jumped on my lap he knocked over my purse and my change went flying. :ANYWORD:

Radek Bonk, hockey player. I did not talk to him directly, but one of the staff I had under me refused to allow him to adopt a Humane Society cat as he failed the questionnaire. Since he travelled too much the duty of caring for the cat would have fallen to his mother and protocol required that she agree to the adoption. My staffer informed him that he needed to "go ask his Mommy if he could have the cat". :hairpull:
Also saw Yashin in the mall at one point.

George Blackburn, author. This man was one of the most genuine people I have ever met. Bill's unit was having a family day and they had Mr. Blackburn there to autograph his books. As Bill was tied up with duties, I suspected that he would not have the chance to meet a man he greatly respected so I brought one of his books to have autographed. Mr. Blackburn and I got to talking and when he realized I was the wife of a soldier he asked where Bill was and wanted to meet the man who was the father to the three beautiful kids in front of him. (Curran talked his ear off and he thought he was much older than he was. lol) Much to my surprise, this elderly man insisted on me taking him waaaay outside and to the post Bill was holding. This incredible soldier thanked Bill for his service and he was grateful that people like Bill would come out and commit to being a reservist. He viewed reservists as being every bit as important to the Forces and made no bones about it. They chatted for quite a bit, much to the surprise of everyone and Bill was quite moved by it. I escorted Mr. Blackburn back to his table and he offered to autograph the other two books Bill had and gave me his phone number so we could get together one day for a tea. He re-iterated how much respect he had for all who serve and that he would always have time for those who did so. He told me how much he thought of Bill and I told him how much it meant to Bill to meet someone such as he. He responded that he was just like Bill. Alas, we did not get the chance to meet again as he became sick and passed away not long afterwards, but we are much richer for having met him and for his leaving his legacy in print.

The Queen. Well, sort of. I was within 20 feet of her and she sort of looked my way. Sort of. I am sure she wanted to talk to me. That counts, right?! :haha:

Josef Karsh, world renowed photographer. Bumped into him literally at a coffee shop, knocked my coffee over and did not realize who he was until he had gone out the door. :banghead:

Wayne Rostad, musician/entertainer. BIG fella. Faye Dance. Stompin Tom Connors. Max Keeping. Sheila Copps (politician... what a B*tch! wowza!) Leigh Chapple. None of those people will mean anything to anyone if you are out of the Valley.

Honeymoom Suite (band) as I was the school photographer back then. I also met the band that sings "Babe I'm Leaving", whoever they were. **wracks brain** All I remember is that they could drink. A lot.

I know there are a few more, but cannot think right now.

Leigh--I am SO jealous that you met Josef Karsh. Photography is my hobby and he is one of my faves (forget Annie Leibowitz). I love that he would only be photographed from behind--seems like a humble guy.

He was quite "normal". I was at a crowded coffee shop downtown and he was ahead of me. He was waiting for his coffee and I placed my order when he started up a conversation about the weather we were having (it was HOT and muggy). It was idle chatter, but he was delightful. As we got pushed to one side of the counter and received our drinks at the same time he turned, knocked my arm and my coffee spilled pretty much all over the place. He apologized, insisted on buying me another one (would not take no for an answer) and grabbed me a wad of napkins to clean myself with. I was busy cleaning up and somehow he managed to get me another coffee and we chatted idly again about how busy the place was and how great the coffee was. I told him I loved the smell and had no problem wearing it like a perfume. He laughed, told me to have a wonderful day and that he had to be on his way. He asked me my name and I asked his. He simply said "Yousef" and although he looked SO familiar, I did not make the connection at that point. We parted and that night he was on the news for a showing he had that day. :banghead:

I have seen his work and he is absolutely incredible. He lived in the Chateau Laurier I believe for a number of years, had a studio of his work on Sparks Street and I had met up with him in the Byward Market. He was very nice and there was a quiet greatness about him, even though I did not immediately figure out who he was. Somehow, it was extra special though to meet him in such an everyday setting, even though he drenched me in coffee. lol

His brother Malak is equallly revered as a renowned photographer. How interesting that both brothers would be so very gifted.

Right next to The Chateau Laurier is the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography. Alas, I have never gone, but know that it does pay tribute to the Karsh brothers. So, if you are ever in town... lol

I'm not sure I've ever really MET any celebs, but we've spotted a few:

Aaron Neville -- That muscled guy with the high voice who sang those cotton commercials (and real songs as well) at a hotel in Connecticut.
Carrot Top -- Dined beside him at the local Macaroni Grill.
Willie Nelson -- We've gone to a few of his concerts (DH is a huge fan), so one time I got their pic afterwards.
Gordon from Sesame Street -- I think he was doing an appearance at the mall. I was about three and have a photo of the two of us.

Like Christine, I've met Kurt Warner. When I was going to college in Kansas City, I met several of the KC Chiefs. I met Len Dawson (QB of SuperBowl Championship KC Chiefs and local sportscaster) in an elevator. I met Tom Watson (PGA golfer). They were all very friendly. I once met Gary Burghoff (Radar from MASH) in the pharmacy I worked in. He came in to have some scripts refilled. It was pretty time consuming as we had to get them transferred from his regular pharmacy in Florida, and he was such a jerk. He was doing a play at the dinner theater next door.

My biggest heartstopping celeb moment, though was sitting in traffic next to Joe Montana. I had to drive past Arrowhead Stadium to get from work on the Country Club Plaza to my apartment in Independence. Well, Monday Night Football games made traffic a living :censored: . As I was sitting at a dead stop on I-70, I looked into the lane next to me to find Joe Montana talking on a cell phone in his black Acura NSX. OMG!!! I was so in love with Joe when he was playing. I still wish I had done a "Chinese Fire Drill" and gotten his autograph!

Ooh, just remembered another not-so-popular celebrity I've seen:

Ric Ocasek, lead singer of The Cars -- His son went to the private school I worked at. He showed up for the occassional football game and, of course, graduation. Paulina Porzikova (sp?) looked great; he looked like death.

Phil Lesh , bass player for grateful dead, outside his Ritz hotel in Philadelphia..

My husband (BF then) were in Philly for the show and just hanging outside the hotel. When he walked out to his bus a huge group of people flocked around him, and he had some words as he walked away. A few minutes after he was on the bus, he came out and gave us a bass pick, and thanked us for being respectful. Of course I had nothing to say to him, but a big happy smile.. But if I could only have told him how he (and Jerry & Bobby) have changed my life.. Helped give me true meaning to loving myself and others.

That's what makes him so nice and fairly normal I think. He's a down home boy!

I have not met any one famous, but I saw MC Hammer in the Appelbee's in Dublin CA when we lived out there. He was having luch with a group of people at the table near us. I was too shy to go talk to him though.

I saw Jack Osborn in a parking garage in downtown Hollywood, but that was the only person we saw our whole trip.
