Kaitlyn is 17 months old and i'm ready to be done with breastfeeding...my milk supply is lowering all the time, i'm guessing due to different stress, its become extremely difficult to pump at work and frankly i've just had enough and i don't want a bitter relationship starting with the breastfeeding.
My question is this. Kaitlyn's been on prevacid and motility drug since Christmas. She's been off of the motility drug since probably March or April so she's only on prevacid.
I tried yogurt with her the other day and well the result is i won't be weaning her to cow's milk. I didn't think i heard her refluxing so much over it as she was just crying constantly and miserable. I'm starting to wonder if she has a dairy allergy. I don't know.
Anyway i don't want to go the soy route. So my other options are goats milk, which i've just finishing an article that made me feel that wasn't the greatest choice and there were a lot of rules with it and rice milk which i have the perception (might not be true) that there isn't enough nutrients in it.
So what am i to do? What do i wean my little refluxer/possible dairy allergy to?
Any suggestions?
MJ

Hi MJ:
I'm sorry but I don't have much advice for you since we aren't weaning yet. I've tried supplementing with formula, but Roman hates the taste. Is Kaitlyn too old for formula? We are currently giving Roman a bottle of soy formula/soy milk mixed 50/50 when I'm not around to breastfeed. I'm worried that the soy milk isn't nutritious enough though, so I'm going to ask the pedi about it on Wednesday. I'll ask about rice milk too and let you know what he says. Can I ask why you don't want to try soy or goat's milk? I'm sorry I don't have more answers for you. Hopefully someone with more wisdom and experience than me will be along shortly with some advice....
BTW, way to go on the 17 months of breastfeeding! I am always so impressed with mom's who stick it out that long. I'm going on just ten months and I'm already tired of it and wishing I could wean...

You won't hear a bad word on goat milk from me, it is a really good alternative and much better tolerated than cows milk in most children.
Both my boys have been on goat milk, it is just sometimes hard to get here, if there is no goat milk, we use rice milk.
What I would do is slowly add some goat milk into ceral, cooking and see how she does, if she tolerates it, then you could try it in bottles or sippys and see how she goes. If she has problems with dairy it is more likely that she will have a problem with soy as well, so I think you are doing a good thing with either the goat, or rice
Here is an article I wrote on it, and a bit about our expierience

There's too many things with soy that i've read about that i really don't want can't having soy milk. Just a personal opinion. I would have loved to have her on goats milk but i was reading some things on that that made me a littl e concerned as well.
Thanks its been a LONG journey with breastfeeding this long its been especially difficult the last 6-7 months with me at work full time and attempting to pump on my employers schedule. Sigh. Thanks for the response though
