My grandson is 19 months old and has had a rash on his scrotum for several weeks now.....the rash is only on his scrotum, it goes back and forth between almost gone to bright red...and it itches him pretty badly. It never breaks open, it almost seems to dry out the skin....dehydrated like ...not flaky. His Ped gave him a script for a Nystatin Cream USP, she thought he had a yeast infection....it really did nothing much for him...so my dd called Ped after the cream was gone to tell her that he still had the rash and she recommended....Triple Paste....it seemed to help some too...but this will not go away...and if you don't keep right on the diapers he gets bright red. We let him go without a diaper so he can air out, he is constantly itching himself while doing this....do you have any suggestions as to what this might be or how to get rid of it.

Hard to say. Sometimes new soaps, diapers or wipes can do this. It might be reasonable to try a five day course of twice a day 1% hydrocortisone cream to see if this helps. Only use it lightly for five days. If it continues, then either a culture or biopsy of the area might be warranted.
