View Full Version : Summary of IRD meet ups!
Cam's sahm 06-28-2006, 09:27 PM Yay! We met up at a restaurant in Coronado (San Diego) today at around 2ish. We had some drinks and couldn't stop talking.... God, I wish she lived closer. We talked about IRD and babies...yada yada...got a little buzz on..LOL..Her husband and Mike are the biggest sweethearts! Then we went to her hotel pool afterward and swam with Cam and Connor. It was just too cool. Cam fell asleep on my shoulder in the pool and Connor had his bottle (in the pool) lol..then we tried to put them to sleep in the hotel room (Kim had a monitor, like a good mommy) I went in after about 10 minutes to grab a beer and when I walked in the room I smelt a poopie! It was the ConMan! Way to ruin a first date huh! hahaha We spent about 3 hours together...not enough time...5:30 rolled around and I had to get home to dh...plus Cameron was going to totally miss her afternoon nap if I didn't get out of there soon. Kim walked us a couple blocks to my car..we bought some bouncy balls for the kids at a souvenir shop, on the way..and said goodbye. They invited us to the beach tomorrow...We might go...I don't know, we'll see.
Just wanted to share! It was a really weird feeling meeting someone for the first time and feeling like you were great friends already....I guess we are. :) doi...just oddly comfortable right off bat. kwim?

scarlet 08-14-2006, 08:30 PM Well you may or may not know that after the convention Leigh and I followed each other up to Niagara Falls, seeing as she had to get home some how and why not by the falls LOL.
After her getting us lost during the first 10 minutes we were a bit hesitant to follow them for the next 4 hours but after a quick map check we got back too it, without getting lost again (phew!)
We stopped for gas at a Bikie hangout and then proceeded to the Falls. We checked in to rooms next door and both freaked out when there was a door to nowhere on the 11th floor, for those who have met our LO's you would have freaked too. So we got the lock changed and then proceeded down to the Maid of the Mist, where we got totally wet but was worth it.
At dinner that night (Hard Rock Cafe) we found out that it was actually Walkers birthday, I felt so bad cause she told me the night before but, um, I think we ALL had had a few drinks and she didn't mention it on the day.
That night Leigh came and made me go shopping (Did you know shops are open till 1am) and eat Dairy queen and then we sat on IRD in the stairwell so that we didn't wake the kids.
I tell ya I haven't laughed so much with this whole convention and now at the falls. The convention and falls has been the highlight of this trip (which has been fantastic, so what does that say for the convention)
Anyway, bed at 2am, this girl is a bad influence you know.
So after still being half asleep we trudged ourself to Marineland, this is what Walker wanted to do for his birthday, and it was great. There were kiddy rides that even Parker could get on, Killer whales, we patted the Beluga whales and then we fed 500 friendly deer, sorry, did I say 500, I meant 5.
(Leigh can explain that one too you)
Then it was time to go, it was so sad, this was the end of the convention for me, Leigh, Bill and the Boys had a huge trip ahead as they have to both go back to work tomorrow and we didn't think that we would have spend as long at the place.
So that was our extra extension to our convention. We drive back to Ohio tomorrow and are off to Disneyland!

Unfortunately it is not the full original post, I can't seem to find it
Shaes Grammy 02-14-2007, 05:00 PM Jennifer had telephone me one day and felt so alone. She had seen our story/Shae-Lynne's story in a local newspaper and told me she just cried and cried and was thrilled to find someone that understood.
I told her to check out IRD, but at the time she just didn't have access to a computer. So I offered to print out the entire website, which I did and I mailed it to her.
A few months had passed and I rec'd a really nice thank you card from her. I almost cried. I am not a mushy person, but it was just so thoughtful.
Her son Aidan was going through a rough time. We e-mailed each other a little bit and she joined the site. She posted a few times, not much as she was working two jobs and handling a reflux baby.
She is a bartender at a local bar. I never to go bars, but decided one Friday night I would go meet her. So this old grammy headed out on a Friday night (band playing, loud, etc). We talked a bit and she hugged me and I hugged her (I am not a hugging person at all....never...only with a smiley). But there was a connection. Like we both already knew each other.
Anyway I went back to talk more with her on a less busy time.
A few months later, Roni and Shae-Lynne came here to visit so Jenn came by with Aidan. It was nice. She knew Roni was staying here for about three weeks, so she offered to come back so that her and Roni and the reflux kids could spend some time together at the mall.
Jenn later told me it was a good thing Roni didn't live close b/c they would be the best of friends....they both love the mall and shopping.
In the fall the local mall, The Galleria Mall, was having a health fair that I had attended before that. I asked Jenn if she would like to join me and she re-arranged her scheduled, got time off and helped me out.
Notice she also had on her Reflux T-Shirt.
I see her from time to time...when I need a drink....LOL. Thankfully, Aidan was one of the lucky ones that have outgrown reflux.
However, I don't think Jenn will ever forget what she went through with Aidan when he was younger.
He is a real handsome little guy (as you can see in the picture).

So we finally made it to see them at the UK Childrens Hospital this morning and let me tell you...Emmy is a little darling of a girl. She stole my heart, you guys! That little peanut, she is so vivacious, smiley and so good natured..bottom line, I can't get the image of her waving bye bye to me out of my head. I was wishing I can take her home with me.
She has her NG tube in and seems to be doing ok with it. Melissa said, she was not very happy about it the first day and now she is treating it like it's not even there. At least i did not see her pulling on it once.
She is taking formula really well, 4oz every 3 hrs and is not throwing it up or having discomfort, so thats major news. :smt041 Melissa was worried about DGE, but it does not seem to be on her mind anymore.
They are just going to continue with the NG till Thursday and if all is well proceed with the G-tube surgery.
I have no doubt in my mind that Em is going to do really well with it. She'll catch up in no time and we'll see lots of chunky monkey pictures and stress free mommy.
I wanted to share some of the pics I took of Emmy and Ava playing together. It was so cute!!!
Emily was walking around patting Ava on her back, saying "baby" "baby".
Check it out...

scarlet 03-29-2007, 10:08 AM OMG why did I volunteer to do the trip rehash while Em, is flying home LOL
Well I had better start with this is probably going to be long. Skip ahead if I am repeating myself!
Em arrived last Tuesday at 4pm, her plane was delayed an hour and by the time she arrived the boys were more than ready (pic of them waiting)
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/cooperandparker/Picture247.jpg
When they finally arrived there were hugs and hellos, they were not that tired and we proceeded home and had some dinner and a few drinks, that is the night we got on the internet here and posted some pics!
The next day we started out early, to go and get some breakfast and see some beaches, unfortunately we didn’t check what places would be open so we went to three beaches before we found one which was open for breakfast, all of us went down to the beach and Jack had a great time seeing the ocean for the first time, he didn’t want to leave.
Pic of Em and Chris at one of our beaches (Scarborough)
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/cooperandparker/1.jpg
Then we went to Kings Park and the kids had a play, and Jack chased ducks LOL he has no fear that boy and tried running several times into the lake without stopping.
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/cooperandparker/2.jpg
We then went home for the kids to have a nap, and came back to the Belltower
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/cooperandparker/3.jpg
My kids with the city view
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/cooperandparker/4.jpg
And to Fremantle (it was all about the Ocean LOL) here is a pic of Jack and his icecream, gee that kid rolfed down food, it was so good to see! Came home via my mum and dads and ended up home late exhausted.
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/cooperandparker/4b.jpg
On the Thursday, we traveled ‘down south’ as we call it, after the previous days debacle where Em and I had to crawl into the back seat of the car in a less than lady like manner, we decided to take 2 cars, so Em, me and the boys, and Dan and Chris in the other car- they were so lucky, we had screaming pinching kids (don’t put three car seats together) for three hours, but finally we arrived, and Em and I had a spa day, we had a massage, facial and pedicure, it was fantastic.
We went to dinner that night at Busselton and then back to our hotel for drinks on the patio, it was a great laugh and Em found out about the Aussie Male Lariken, as a man called Donkey proceeded to give her his card to hook him up with a US woman LOL
Dan and Chris drinking
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/cooperandparker/5.jpg
The next day after minimal sleep, we did the winery tour and light house tour, and wondered if it was wrong to be drinking at 11am? ROFL Dan was skipper but I don’t think he really cared as it was a big night before. So we did a few wineries and some tours, and Em got to see a kangaroo in the wild, she was so excited!
Pic of Em, Chris and Jack at the top of the lighthouse

The rear view of the car, and my exhausted kiddos, LOL better this way than crawling in the boot!
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/cooperandparker/8.jpg
We went back to the hotel and had a slightly early night LOL, and started heading home the next day, we went via the Busselton jetty, which Cooper and I got half way, as soon as it went from solid to wooden and wonky both Cooper and I wanted out LOL, so the rest went to the end, and came back and played in the sand and surf, again Jack was in his element

Pic of Em under the Jetty
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/cooperandparker/10.jpg
We then drove to Rockingham and the kids got in the sea not once but twice more, before we started for home.
Em, Chris and Jack at the Penguin Island sign (we were 20min late for the last ferry over)
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/cooperandparker/10b.jpg
We got home and had an early night, and got up the next day to have a look at our Weir, we had breakfast in an old hotel in Mundaring
This is Jack in an old phone booth
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/cooperandparker/11.jpg
Then Em and I proceeded to hit the shops in town, and have a look around!
That night, we went to a restaurant called C restaurant, this restaurant revolves around our city and we had cocktails galore and then went to the casino and had a great time doing a little gambling, we came home loosers but it was so much fun.

All of us after the casino (pretty messy LOL)
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/cooperandparker/14.jpg
The next day we got up to go to the Wildlife park, where we got to meet Amy and Miki, and see all the Australian animals we have to offer. We had heaps of fun here.

We then went up to my parents farm to stay the night, we taught Em to ride a motorbike LOL
Em on the bike
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/cooperandparker/20.jpg
And showed her the farm, we chased kangaroos on the motorbikes (though the boys were better than us later on in the night) and we had an early night (as the farm does that too you!)

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/cooperandparker/23.jpg
We left the farm on the Tuesday, and then came home to pack up Ems stuff, Em and I then went to the movies and a little more shopping, it was great to have some girl time, and I haven’t seen a movie in absolutely ages! We came home and the boys went to the pub, but came home early cause they were freezing, and sat half the night in the spa (Jacuzzi) LOL
Em and I headed off early and Dan and Chris stayed up chatting (it was great they got along so well) and in the morning it was so sad, we were all a bit quiet and waiting for the time, Em and I went and got some breakfast together and just pottered till it was time to see them off, it was so sad, Em and I were bawling, and I cried more once she left, Parker kept telling me don’t cry mummy! They are going to miss them too, they already are, it was a total blast having them, and although this is long it couldn’t begin to explain how much fun and the laughs we have had. It is amazing that I met someone from so far away and she came so far to see us.
Thank you so much for listening to our adventure, it was great to share it with you all

We had dinner together that night, drank, lol.. and then on the next day went to the zoo, this time we took cars. Fun was had by all.
I miss you gals. :sad5: I have no pics of Leigh, she was always running around like a chicken w/her head cut off, same w/Mary. :smt036 They both worked so hard on this and it was so much fun. Thanks again to you both.

Okay, so we got on the road a bit later than anticipated Friday afternoon. Aside from getting a late start, things were going well....until B barfed on herself. No biggie, we were only a couple miles from a rest stop. Got her cleaned up and continued along our merry way. Traffic was heavy on I-95 and we were laughing that this would give us more "alone time" (ha!) to talk on the way there. Dh and I don't get to see each other much anymore, so being trapped in an overloaded car for 4 hours (with 2 kids in the back) seems like a romantic getaway. And it was...until B barfed again. This time, she really outdid herself. She covered herself, the carseat, the backseat surrounding her and, just for fun, she somehow also got barf into the toy bag. We were in very heavy traffic and were far away from the next exit. She was screaming and gagging, so we pulled over onto the shoulder and I stood with her frantically trying to clean up what I could while watching semi trucks whiz past us.
I had to pull Bethany out of the car in order to get her undressed/clean the carseat as best I could and as we stood on the side of the road, I kept such a deathgrip on her arm (I was terrified she'd run away from me--her new favorite game) that she had bright red impressions of my fingers through the next day.
We spent the next 3.5 hours in the car breathing in the not-so-pleasant (or romantic) aroma of regurgitated Neocate, tropical flavor (it has lovely topnotes of rotten citrus and a musky undertone of partially digested peanut butter). :sign11:
Got to Dan's cousins' house--they recently downsized and we realized right away that this was going to get interesting. They have a 2 bedroom place (one bedroom is an office) and a twin-size foldout couch in the living room. Don't ask--sleeping was pretty interesting. :evil4:
My kids puked on pretty much everything in sight and we ended up having to do 5 loads of puke laundry during our 2-day stay. Adam is really becoming quite adept at hitting targets across the room and Bethany has come out of puke retirement lately. :sad3:
Thankfully, neither kid decided to let loose while at the zoo...because I totally forgot the diaper bag. (I did have diapers with me--just not the bag with the 47 changes of clothing). We had a great time with Myrita and Peanut--and I should tell you that Myrita is an expert at all things invertebrate! :-)
More later--Bethany needs a diaper and Adam has covered himself in spitup again...

it was a great morning, i was so nervous, which is really stupid, but we hit it off straight away. I knew who it was exactly as Anne walked up to me with little Josh and we went and had a drink and something to eat. josh was a little cutie and was so good, while Naomi, the child who normally sits still and does nothing was a bit sick of being strapped in the pram and was rather wingy :angry7: but anyway, we had a great chat and will do again!. We even got this poor girl to take our pic at the mall as i was sure i would get shot if there were no pics of us so here we are!!

She is so tiny and pretty, but she is a tough little girl and did not take any crap from Sebastian. She loved holding Emma, she is a little mommy in training. Here are some pics of the kids playing.
