The daycare has been saying that Luke has been eating just fine for them, yet in the evenings & on the weekends, I can't get him to eat anything but crackers, yogurts, apple sauce & stage 3 baby food no matter what I put on his tray(some times I can get him to eat a couple of chicken nuggets). What am I doing wrong? I try feeding him, let him feed himself. I know it's not that he doesn't like my cooking because I try stuff that I don't cook. I feel crazy because he's going to have his eval in a couple of weeks & I'm going to tell them he eats fine at daycare but not at home. I just feel like there's got to be something that I'm doing wrong if he eats fine at school.:sad5: Robynne, do you have any advice on techniques I should try?

I miss my sweet Luke!!! Okay, when I saw Luke last, weight gain was an issue. Is this still a problem? I assume you are not letting him drink before he eats, right? Linda, have you gone to the day care and observed them feeding Luke without him seeing you? I HIGHLY recommend it. Remember they are probably feeding a few kiddos at the same time, thus not focusing all of their attention on Luke and every ounce of intake. Questions for you:
1. Does Luke exhibit hunger behaviors before a meal and what are they? Or do you have him on a schedule?
2. Does it bother Luke to get his fingers dirty when he tries to self-feed? When we started on solids, you were presenting the crackers and cereal bars, so I can't remember if he was exhibiting any sensory issues.
3. What kinds of foods is he eating at day care???
I am more curious if sensory issues are preventing Luke from progressing with feedings. You are not crazy! I am looking for a trend with his foods, but he is eating fairly bland and mushy purees with the exception of the crackers.

No, I space his cups about 2 hours or so before feeding. He'still taking between 25-30 oz of follow-up formula a day, the GI wanted him on pediasure but he won't drink it. Maybe I should try cutting back on the amt. He won't drink water, juice anything, only formula or milk. Very few hunger cues, (sometimes he get cranky) but they keep him on a schedule @ daycare. I did go to the daycare yesterday & low & behold he was eating peas. He wasn't touching the ravioli or carrots on his plate although he did lick the sauce from the ravioli. BUT...when I got his sheet in the afternoon, all of the things on his plate were listed as what he had for lunch so I think their just telling me what was given, not what he actually ate. They said he had 2 portions of peas....is that considered eating well? I can tell you what kind of food they serve but after realizing yesterday they aren't putting down what he actually eats, I can't really say for sure. Last night though, since he was eating peas, I served them for dinner & he ate a little more than a tablespoon & he ate some taco meat although he started gagging on it towards the end & that was it for him. He doesn't seem to have any issues about getting the food on his hands because most of the time I put food in front of him, he just plays in it. Here's a list of things he will eat:
Stage 3 foods with exception of the mac & cheese. Will not eat the gerber graduate meals
2-3 chicken nuggets occasionally (usually gags on the 3rd)
crackers (never had an issue with gagging & throwing up until this weekend)
cereal bars
taco meat (last night)
diced peaches
yogurt

Most time when I try to feed him new foods, he turns his head. Sometimes he'll taste it & gag. If I put it on his tray, he'll play in it for 15 minutes or so, he might try it, he might not.

I'm not sure if you saw my reponse to my other post, but I'm thinking you didn't.It tells about us going to The Children's House in a couple of weeks if you want to go back & read. I can't post the link because I don't have enough posts yet.

Robynne,
I can't begin to tell you how grateful for what you have done for my children over the years. You are an amazing woman!!!!

I just realized I was not getting the answers to my threads sent to my email :( I'm so glad I had time tonight to come looking around the website...lol!!!!!! No, I didn't see the response to your other thread before, but I see it now :)

SO it sounds like day care was reporting everything they may have "presented" to Luke. Peas are a very funky texture too. It sounds like he starts to eat, but then reflux kicks in and he gets "gaggy." He is eating a nice, small variety of textures. I would talk to the GI about PeriActin, especially because Luke is not exhibiting many hunger behaviors and his intake is not great. Keep me posted.

P.S. Frisco Style Magazine did an article on me this past week. I had my 5 minutes of fame :)
