hi, my son is 6 months old and lately has been wheezing on and off and seems to breath out of his mouth alot and very heavy. his nose is not blocked and ive even used a suction bulb but nothing comes out. he has an intermittent cough that at times sounds phlemy. his cough is worse at night and while taking naps. he occasionally chokes on his bottles and when he does it drips out his ose. im not really worried about that but just thought ide add it in anyway. during slep he sounds as if he is snoring on his exhale but it also souds kinda wheezy too. do you think this could be a chest infection or just over reacting? his GP checked his chest about 2 weeks ago and said it was clear but he was not wheezing at the time. should i get him checked out again? also he has been having what appear to me to be apnea episodes where i will go in cuz his breathig monitor goes off and he is pale and dusky blue and he does not respond to anything until i rub him and then he wil have a mucousy stringy thing come out of his mouth and he starts to cry. could this be because of this chest infection? (if he has one) thanks in advance. :-)
Tamika,
It sounds to me like Baylee is aspirating when he refluxes. The GI contents back up his esophagus and enter the trachea. The reflux coming out of his nose certainly indicates that he is refluxing past the vocal cords. This could certainly cause apnea and the cough/wheezing. This can also lead to aspiration pneumonia which can be very serious. I definitely recommend telling your physician about these episodes. I think a chest x-ray is not out of line. I'm sure you already have the head of Baylee's bed elevated, but if not, this could certainly help with the reflux and aspiration. It should be up at least 30 degrees. By all means, bring this up with your physician. He might be able to order a barium swallow study or something along those lines to see definitive aspiration.

thanks, it doesnt sem he is refluxing out of his nose more like he is choking or swallowing the milk wrong and it is forced to drip out of his nose and its not all the time its just occasionally. KWIM? i do think he def has some chest infection or something cuz he is short of breath i noticed today after he cries or has a happy squeeling fit. he seems to be panting... just like a dog lol. i will bring it up with his ped GI on thursday and see what he thinks and i think a swallow study would be very worth while even for peace of mind.
"Swallowing wrong" and choking are definite signs of aspiration. I'm so glad that you're seeing the doctor on Thursday. If he has an acute episode where he can't catch his breath and starts turning blue, seriously think about taking him to the ER. He may certainly have an aspiration pneumonia based on the things you are telling me.
