Hmmm you could take that title in many ways :rolling:

Seriously, just wondering what you like being called by or your nic name. My name is Rachel, but I rarely get called Rachel anymore, most will call me Rach- and I actually prefer that. So feel free. My nick name, for sooo long has been doodah (pronounced doo-dar) don't know why, I will respond quite normally to being called that too. LOL

Do you have a name you prefer to be called? Or do you absolutely hate your name to be shortened?

Debbie

Fun Rach...I'm glad you let us know...I have called you that in the past and wondered if it was ok:smt036
My full name is Deborah..and I hate it...you can call me Debbie or Deb...no nickname since high school...LOL
My kids can call me mom, or ma....my mom hates being called ma?????
DH never calls me anything but my name...no hun, sweety ,babe...I don't like that:sad3:

Lori
05-06-2007, 10:26 PM
It's pretty hard to shorten Lori, so that's pretty much what I go by. DH calls me Sweetie. Brenna calls me maaaaaahhhhhhmmmmmaaaaaaaaaaahhhh.
That's absolutely my favorite!http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_15_44.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZS)

When I was a kid growing up, one of my cousins couldn't pronounce Lori. He called me "Lordy". Unfortunately, it stuck. I HATE IT!!!:favorites21:

I think I have called you Rach as well on a few posts and was hoping you wouldn't mind!

Usually I just go by Yvette. Sometimes 'Vetsky' or 'Sketty'. Some people call me 'Vetty' and I absolutely hate it

Amy

well seen as my name is Amy the only thing it gets shortened tois aim ut generaly they lengthen it to aims or just Amy is also fine i prefer Amy to be honest

My friends either say "Melanie" or "Mel", it doesn't really matter to me. On the other hand my mom calls me "Melli" sometimes and I can't stand it.

Emily M
05-07-2007, 08:10 AM
Well, everyone on here usually calls me "Em" lol... but, Chris doesn't call me that. He usually calls me some that I can't put on here. :evil4:

Em is about all that I will answer to besides mom, mommy, momma... and let me just say that there are many days when Mom is one that I don't want to answer to.

Does anyone get sick of hearing... "MOM" :hissyfit: :smt036

To anyone who has ever called me Rach and then wondered if I minded, I never have. I did this post cause I frequently get asked if someone can call me Rach! I also did it cause I really wanted to call Debbie, Deb in the R rated post but then thought what if she hates it LOL

So if you have a shortened name, can we use it?

Leigh
05-07-2007, 08:39 AM
For those of you who may be wondering, "Leigh" is pronounced "Lee", not "Lay" as in "sleigh". It is a name, not an occupation. :ANYWORD: Pretty hard to shorten it, so Leigh it is. :smt036

My Dad used to call me "Qui Qui" as we were French in the household (lost it all pretty much as Dad died when I was 9 years old and Mom is English) and I always asked 10,000 questions a day, apparently. lol

Bill calls me Leigh and the kids call me either Mommy or MOMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEE, depending on how badly they want my attention. :haha:

Christine
05-07-2007, 08:42 AM
I go by Christine - my mom was a stickler and did not want anyone to shorten it.

I don't mind - call me anything you want.....almost anything. :smt036

For us who DON'T speak french I googled it, he was calling you what, what? I will remember that. LOL

Becky in NM
05-07-2007, 08:45 AM
Although I'm officially Rebecca, I've always been called Becky with very few exceptions. There was a girl in my dorm who called me Rebecca because we met in a class (where I answered to Rebecca in the roll call) before we realized we lived down the hall from each other.

And my FIL likes to mess with names. One time he said to me on the phone, after seeing a photo of me holding tiny Daniel when he was just a few days old, "I told [MIL], Becker's got boobs!"

There was SO MUCH I hated about that statement. :sad3:

My aunt got tired of hearing my 3 year old cousin call out mom too all day so she one day she told my cousin she was changing her name from Mom to Susan. My cousin is now 17 and she still calls out "Susan" anytime my aunt does not respond to" Mom"!:haha:

Most people call me Pam but some of my older relatives call me Pamela. When I was little, my parents called me Mela ("Mee La" ) which are the last 4 letters of my name. The girls' dance teacher who was also my dance teacher still calls me Pammie as she has for the last 37 years she's known me!

I don't like to be called :censored: , :censored: or :censored: but I know DH calls me these names sometimes under his breath as I do the dame to him!

Aim
05-07-2007, 09:47 AM
Well, it shouldn't surprise anyone that I like to be called "Aim" :winking0071: even though my name is Amy (middle name Nicole after my dad's middle name of Nicholas). It's kind of ironic because my mother said one of the reasons she picked Amy for my name was because she couldn't imagine many "nicknames" for it...but I had a whole slew growing up! (Trivia: She also chose Amy from Little Women...Amy, Meg, Jo, & Beth...if my dad would have agreed to it, I would have been Beth instead of Amy!)

Aim, Aimers, Aimster, Amyster, Amy Pay-me (goofy boys down the street who'd hold their hands out and say "Amy, pay me!" over and over :sad3: ), Aim Toothpaste, etc., etc., etc.

But I knew a lot of Amys, so I liked differentiating myself by going as "Aim" whenever possible. Plus I knew it annoyed my mom. :evil4:

I tend to take the liberty of shortening everyone's names to 1 syllable when possible so it makes sense that I prefer my one-syllable moniker. DH calls me Babe, Hon or Gorgeous (awwww!) and Jack calls me Mama or Mommy. Usually "MahhhhhMAAAHHH!" :smt036

I've also had 2 side "businesses": "Aim 2 Please" (Creative Writing and Design Services) and "Aim 2 Bead" Custom Jewelry Design and Jewelry Repair. Corny, huh?

And Rach, I always have to remember not to call you "Scarlet" in my posts to you. LOL

It isn't easy to shorton LAuren so I really never had a nickname in school. I will pretty much deal with any anme well almost anything.

My name is Amanda and I usually go by that or Manda. I absolutely HATE to be called Mandy, although I really don't know why. LOL Also go by baby, honey, mommy, mama. And yes, I do hate hearing "Mom" on some days. I used to tell my kids, "Mommy doesn't live here anymore".

stephiehatt
05-07-2007, 11:25 AM
I don't have a strong preference, but most people call me Steph within moments of meeting me. Stephanie must be quite a mouthful I guess. For instance, when I was at the oral surgeon's office the nurse, who I had just met, called me Steph immediately, never once used my full name. That's the only time it bothers me I guess, when people who don't even know me just automatically shorten my name. I think that's kind of rude.

But on here, with my username being StephieHatt, most people just have always called me Steph or Stephie and that is fine w/me. I consider my IRD friends people who know me and therefore I don't mind being called Steph by them, I actually prefer it. At work and in most social settings everyone calls me Steph. Usually the only people that call me Stephie are my parents, my nana, and my aunts.

And Rachel,I am glad you like to be called Rach. I had a friend who HATED be calling that and would get mad if people did. So I was always hesitant to use that in responding to posts of yours until I saw others using it.

Well, it shouldn't surprise anyone that I like to be called "Aim"

I like Aim, as my best friend's name is Amy and I have always called her Aim or Aimer. The only people that call her that are her really close friends and family.

So when I saw your siggie line when you first joined IRD I liked you from the start b/c it reminded me of my BF. But now I just like you anyway! LOL

Karas Mom
05-07-2007, 11:46 AM
Christine or Chris is fine, I don't have a preference, but I HATE Chrissy. My Dad used to call me Christine the Bean and my husband morphed it to just Bean or Bean Pole (which trust me, I am not skinny as a bean pole, so I don't get that one) and Kara calls me Mom, but it sounds more like Maaaahm . . .

Aw, shucks!

I like you, too, STEPH! :winking0071:

(Ironically, I'm not too fond of the name Steph(anie) as that was DH's big "relationship/heartbreak" that made him gunshy to get together with me! You're not from Iowa, are you??!!)

No way! (No offense to anyone from Iowa.) That's funny b/c when DH and I first started dating his ex-girlfriend heard he was dating a girl named Stephanie and she thought I was a different Stephanie that DH had met while they were still dating. She though he ended up dating that Stephanie when they broke up.

Isn't it funny how you develop feelings about certain names based on your experiences w/people with that same name? When DH and I were looking at baby names we'd often see one we liked and be like "I like that name but it reminds me of so and so, who I didn't like" and so therefore it was not on the list.

Steph, same here on the baby names! LOL There are so many names I would have loved to use, but didn't because of exes or people I don't like. As for the whole name game and dating issue...listen to this one. Nick was engaged and lived with a girl right before me and her name was AMANDA. Ugh! That always bothered me!!!

LOL! I was being facetious when I asked if you're from IA, because I know you're from Chicago. (That would totally suck, though, to *meet* and like someone on a message board and find out they're someone you've always *hated*!)

But yes, I'm able to associate names with a variety of emotions...:evil4:

Mary
05-07-2007, 06:09 PM
About half my friends and family call me "Mare". The other half call me "Mary". Honestly? I prefer, "your highness". :haha:

Really, I don't care either way. Either version is fine. :-)

Miori
05-07-2007, 06:16 PM
Well, it's kind of hard to shorten my name....that is, if people can manage to even pronounce it correctly in the first place! I'm still scarred from all those awful "first day of school" events where I had to teach the whole class how to say my name.

So, for the record, it's pronounced Mee-or-ee, kinda like Midori, minus the D.

DH rarely calls me by Miori, it's Sweet Love. My mom calls me Meazie, which is a name I use online a lot too.

i've also gotten those amy names except amy payme lol..... my mom got my name from little woman too i was supposed to be Amy Beth but my sister is tammysue and she wanted me so bad prayed for a baby sister and begged for my name to be like hers Therefor Amylou one word no middle name just like Tammysue...... but with my last name being Smith Kinda good because do you know how many Amy Smiths there are on this planet lol

Lena
05-08-2007, 07:14 AM
Lena or Lena-Marie. I used to hate Lena-Marie but it's grown on me as I've aged.

Pronounced Lean-a unless you are my brothers. When they were little they couldn't say my name and it came out Nina-arie. To this day they still call me Nina-arie.

kerrinry
05-08-2007, 08:54 AM
I prefer Princess or Great One :haha: but will settle for anything. DH calls me honey or Ker or :censored: (mostly). Growing up my cousin use to call me Woodstock and still does. My Grandpa calls me CoCo. Otherwise just whatever. I have a habit of shortening everyone's name to one syllabel. I usually will call you what you were introduced to me as.

Sammy is called Bamm Bamm or Bammers
Ryan is Ry-dogg or Rhino
and Jack is Einstein (used correctly and sarcastically) I know how mean

Kel
05-10-2007, 12:56 PM
Kelly or Kel, most people call me Kel. I don't mind either of them, really. I don't think I have ever heard my DH call me Kelly.

But you can call me princess :rolling:...just kidding

AvasMommy
05-10-2007, 01:11 PM
People usually call me Lindsay, but my dad always called me Linds, and so do a few of my good friends. I don't mind either one. Otherwise, I've never really had an official nickname.

really people have difficulties with your name thats exactly how i thought it was pronounced, maybe thats because i am used to different names... my friends daughter is kahloa its hawaiin prounounced ka low a
my cousin is Ferolyn pronounced feh-row-lyn means iron daughter in scottish my kids dads last name is Gregoire pronounced greg waah
