A friend of mine is getting married today and the girls are in it. :hairpull:
It makes me feel old, reasons

14 years ago when I was married the first time around I think maybe we spent a total of $3000 on the whole wedding. We didn't have a big reception, as my ex was a good boy... *gag* :sign11: and my dress was cheap, I loved it, but it was cheap. My MIL made the bridesmaids dresses and the flower girls'. His aunt made the flowers, his uncles videoed.... *big mistake, they screwed it up* my uncle took the pics. So, we got off CHEAP. Good thing too, it ended 2 1/2 years later.
Chris and I decided to get married and we had both had a wedding, so we went to the courthouse, said our vows and that was that. Romantic, eh? :smt036

This wedding, well, in the grand scheme of things, I'm sure is not NEAR what some spend, but what I am spending is absolutely RIDICULOUS. The girls' dresses were $100 a piece, their shoes, I just got, were $40, that would be fine if they could wear them again, no way can they. :sad3: I had to buy a wedding gift and shower gift, which I did last night and spent too much. :hairpull: Of course it was things that she had "registered" for. UGH... The girls are, right now, as I type, getting their hair done and it is costing me $80, I could go and pay $80 and get my hair cut, colored and highlighted. :hairpull: Oh, and we had to buy a tiara and that was $20. AAAAAUUUUGHGHHHHHH......

So, the bridesmaids' dresses I know were $170, their hair, to fix, is going to cost them $75, RIDICULOUS.

I'm curious, how cheap am I? LOL... how much was your wedding?

They are having a huge dinner reception tonight with a dj, cash bar, champagne, you name it. I'm glad that I'm not getting the bill. Can you say "Father of the bride" LOL...

I am NOT answering this one! ROFL

All I am going to say is for the wedding we had we got off real cheap.

As far as the flower girl though, I only had one and it was my niece, and her dress was $220, I almost died, I wanted to hire it for $80, but my SIL wanted to buy it to keep, so her perrogative I suppose! I think she wore shoes she had, and my mum bought the tiara for about $10, and she did get her hair done, it would have been about $40 I reackon.

:haha: You must answer... :haha:

How much were the bridesmaids dresses? I'm just thinking that in 17 years when the girls are ready, that I will just pay for them to go away and do it. It would be sooo much cheaper... and less stress. I'm stressed today and I'm not getting married. :smt036

I think we spent too much on our wedding, but we didn't spend near as much as alot of other people I know... ... But I will say that I let the flower girl pick out her own dress & her mom got it off ebay for 20 bucks & it included the headpiece. It was such a cute dress too!!! My husband worked tons of overtime the year before, we were able to pay cash for it all, except the honeymoon! We also did the old fashioned firehall wedding, which cut costs alot.. We had fun though & I guess thats all that matters!!

I think that is probably about the average price for a bridesmaids dress! I think mine were 160 & they were one of the cheaper ones!!

My Wedding cost about 2000 total, and only took 2 weeks to set up. Including license and paying the minister and our rings, all the way down to the pigs in a blanket. My dress was $60, DH wore his dress blues (NAVY), my sister worse a cool suit that cost her $120 (she actually looked better than me LOL) and then the reception was in my Mom's garage!!!! LOL
can you say "white trash wedding?" :haha:
We made all the food ourselves and decorated ourselves, and my Mom's friend made the cake and did the flowers.
I did everyone's hair including my own.
My Dad's friend videoed the wedding/reception and took some stills for us.

LOL what's really funny is half our family (the uppity half) thought we were in a rush to get married because I was pregnant, so the rumors were flying all over the place, and I kinda went ahead and played with them by rubbing my belly every once in a while, and DH even played along.
pregnant NAh! We were just in love and wanting to start our life together.
The day after the wedding we packed up the dodge colt and moved to VA, and the rest is history.

We talked about doing it all over the "right" way someday, but eh
too much money and I'm afraid will jinx our 15 year record, we have a good roll going.

My cousin got married 3 years ago. Their wedding was at a beautiful garden club in Paris Kentucky... it was a beautiful wedding, simple, elegant, but beautiful.
She got the girls dresses at TARGET for $20... OMG... and had someone make their headpiece out of fresh roses. I have to find a pic now. LOL...

I just think that sometimes the bride doesn't think about anyone but herself. You know, I have other things to spend my money on... umm.. BILLS, DANCE COSTUMES... kids are just too damn expensive.

we was lucky my parent put in 10000 for our wedding and my inlaws put in 5000 and we put in 5000 so we had 20,000 to play around with

The actual cost of our wedding was b/w 10000-12000 but we got almost all of it back with wedding gifts!!!

Amys was more than mine...just! YAY, but we were married 7 years ago, and dans sister plans weddings, and she is sooo surprised at what we paid, we were just lucky, we got the reception center hire for free cause it was new, it overlooked Perth, and was beautiful, we also got the two rooms instead of one. By the time we actually got married if we booked it it would have been $2000 just to hire the room.

We didn't do a set menu, and saved heaps, we had our cake for desert and saved heaps, dan and I did all the centerpieces ourselves.

My bridesmaid dresses were $220 (same as the flower girl :rolling:) which they had to buy, but that was it, Dad paid for makeup and hair, I paid shoes, and jewellery and tiara mum got. And I will also add that only family were bridal party so no one really cared KWIM? They had to go anyway.

And I think this should be the time that I put in that Amy and I use Australian dollars, when we got married it was about .63c in the dollar so a $20,000 wedding would have been US$12,600

Ours was a very traditional big Italian Catholic Wedding. When it was all over i bet we spent around $15,000. My parents gave us $10,000 and said we could do what ever we wanted with it - wedding, save, vacation, etc....But they would have killed us without a wedding.

My husband and I have a side business providing linens for wedding and parties. We provide chair covers, overlays and speciality napkins. Just something we do on the weekends. Do I have some stories. The people who use our services probably all spend at least $25,000.

i've never been married but as seeing the costs, i'll have to elope... actually my sis just got married not alot of money this is a 2nd her first husband passed years ago... they got married in the Amvets hall by a JP and the food was pot luck people brought of course the cash bar and they only had the maidron of honor and best man... my sis and bil that are Alexis godparents... it wasn't the dressiest occasions the guests were dressed from formal to jeans and tshirts...

whats that saying always a bridesmaid never a bride well thats me lol

i was a flowergirl/juniorbridesmaid in my sis tammys she wanted to get me a matching white dress but her mil said that was bad luck... i had a pretty light blue gown..and white gloves lol my pics are packed maybe i'll remember next week and post

then i was in my sis lindas wedding where she let her bridesmaids choose what they wanted to where... 3 of us matched as we all got them at same time...the rest were A RAINBOW

then i was in my cousins wedding.. i couldn't go when they were getting dresses she got them at jc penny outlett $60 a piece she paid for mine i was a size 14-16 at the time i told her to get an 18 just in case... she bought a 24 (unfortunatly that would prob fit now :sad3: ) it cost me $120 to size it down and the seamstress did the best she could but the top was so uncomfy the dress was an ugly style too

I have no idea what the whole affair cost, but I do remember that my gown was about $700. I think the bridesmaids dresses were about $200. My flower girl, however, I just told her mom to get her any black velvet dress (winter wedding) that she could wear over again. She looked adorable in a simple black velvet dress, one that she could easily wear to church or to any special event.

My wedding including the rings was about $650. We were married at the court house 6 years ago.

:coffee: Don't ask how much our wedding cost. We did the traditional Arab 3-day celebration for 300 on the East Coast. The food alone was $10,000. Coming from a small midwestern town, I was totally blown away by how much wedding stuff costs--and I still think it's a total scam!

My gown was originally $2,000; however, because the designer was discontinuing that particular dress, the boutique sold it to me off the rack for $250. (No joke!)

The bridesmaid dresses were $149 apiece and I let the girls pick out their own shoes. I let my flower girl's mother pick out her dress (any white/cream dress--I didn't care about the design) and shoes.

I paid for all my bridesmaids to get their hair/nails done--and they got to pick the style. I figured that since most of them had to fly/drive pretty far to come, they didn't need to spend tons of cash on silly stuff like shoes they'd never wear again, KWIM?

i think our wedding probably totalled to about 6000,, not sure.. my dress was 900 dollars from davids bridal.. but i thought it was very pretty.. :) bridesmaids dresses were 165. and then my flower girls dress was 110 dollars , i ended up buying her dress. the catering was where we got ripped off it was 2000 my mom payed for it.. but it wasnt worth it.. :( i was married in a lutheran church even though i'm catholic, dh isnt catholic and was married before so that was a big problem..we payed like 450 for the church and all that.. we didnt have a honeymoon :( we just stayed in a real nice hotel in nashville and went to the hermitage the following day for a tour.. if i had it to do over again.... we would have had the beach wedding i always wanted.. cuz weddings are TOO stressful lol.

I am not sure what everything all cost for our wedding. I do know that my parents spent about $3000 and dh and I spent close to $1000. My dress was $200. Bridesmaid dress was $30 on ebay. Taras flower girl dress was $4:oops: at Old Navy (it was a clearance xmas dress). Dh had this suit already and my mom found Trey's at a garage sale for like $3. All in all I think it was probably no more than $6000, which I think is pretty darn good!!!

Honestly, I would have to ask my mom as I was 19 during my first marriage and not involved in the monetary decisions. :smt036 I would have to say though that it could not have cost over $1500 because it was about as simple as they come. What cost the most were the flowers, which I think were in the neighborhood of $700 and totally NOT what I was wanting. That's another story. Umm...let's see.

I had an informal wedding gown I picked out of the JCPenney catalog for $150 and had hemmed slightly. Shoes for $20 and pearl jewelry for around $15-$20. Since my wedding was in May, the bridesmaids dresses were actually PROM dresses that we found for $40 each. I got them all pearl necklace/earring sets for $15 and white sandals for I think $20, so that was like $75 total each for everything. My hair and makeup was done free by a family friend. My cousin (bridesmaid) did the hair and makeup of all of the bridesmaids. The flower girl had been in many weddings and was able to wear an ivory gown and headpiece from a previous one, so she was out nothing. I did buy gifts for everyone in the wedding party though.

Tuxes I don't remember, but I'm sure they were under $75 each rented. The cake was $100 and Mickey & Minnie porcelain cake topper for $20. One of the groomsmen worked in a deli and made the grooms cake. Decorations were bought cheap at a liquor store I think and I did have personalized napkins. Our "honeymoon" was a one night stay in a hotel paid for by my mom. It had a hot tub in the room that got used for all of maybe 10 minutes. Oh, my wedding band was an "anniversary band" of sapphires and diamonds I found at a jewelry store going out of business and we paid $45 for. I think his wedding band was $50.

Second wedding was much simpler as Nick didn't want a wedding, I'd already had one, and we wanted to get it done quickly. Like someone else mentioned on here, everyone thought I was pregnant already and I wasn't. LOL I did buy a new outfit for the occasion (as did Nick). I spent like $50 on the outfit, $200 for my wedding ring set, $150 for Nick's wedding band, $50 for actual wedding ceremony, $35 for marriage license, and think that was it. Sooo...about $500 total for rings and all. Our "honeymoon" was in my hometown and my dad paid for us to stay two nights in a hotel and gave us money to go out to dinner.

If I had it to do over, the only other place I've ever wanted to get married was in Gatlinburg in a country chateau. I also would love to get a honeymoon once of these days.

Emily, I love the Target dresses! LOL I really want to find some pictures to scan now. For my first wedding, I originally found the bridesmaids these peach dresses that were near identical to my wedding gown aside from the color and were fairly inexpensive. I bought them and none of them fit the girls, so I had to take them back! Luckily when Mom and I were looking through racks of prom dresses, we found some with the same design on the front for $40. I couldn't believe we got off so easily. Of course now, I would have picked something different. My poor bridesmaids. :evil4:

Let's see, late to this one as usual.

Ok, my wedding was a little ridiculous, but I was 29 years old not doing this twice.

My dress was $650 including crinoline, veil, and alterations. My mom made my bridesmaids dresses. We spent about $400 on tuxedos. The minister, chapel, and ballroom totalled about $600. We had an appetizer reception at 7:30 in the evening and neither of us drink, so reception was $600. We splurged on the flowers ($2500) and photographer ($3500). And our honeymoon was about $4000. So, all in all, less than $10,000. Ok, I guess it wasn't so ridiculous!
