I have twin 10 month old boys. They were diagnosed as milk intolerant while still in the NICU after being given preemie formula til my breast milk came in. Their symptoms were projectile diarrhea and a horrible diaper rash that would not heal, it actually broke open and bleed. They were on breast milk until they were 6 weeks old when they started to refuse it. I was told by the ped to supplement with soy formula. That only made matters worse and after mucousy bloody stools I was told they had developed soy colitis and to put them on Alimentum. They have been on Alimentum since they were 7 weeks old and have been great on it. Their GERD is now under control with Prevacid solutabs at 15mgs 1x daily. Per advice from their new ped we have been doing a dairy trial for the past week and they seem to be doing fine with no noticeable reactions. My question is, if they can handle the dairy products can they also be switched to a formula like Good Start? I was told no whole milk proteins til they were 1 year, but is Good Start considered a whole protein? Would we see a reaction from the GS formula when we haven't seen one from yogurt and cheeses? My biggest motivation to switch them is financial, paying for Alimentum for twins is outrageous. But I don't want to cause problems for them when they are finally feeling good. Thanks!
