Ok, I know I should ask my doctor, but I'm doing this more as how did you do it, or how would youo do it than i'm actually going to do it. em still can't really handle anything too big. Nothing too chunky, etc. Baby purees are about it and gerber puffs. LOL. Or she chokes and spews. Anytime we up her feeds she throws up, so we're doing it VERY slowly. Shbe's at 55 cc's an hour. WOOHOOO. This is up from 30 when we first started on feeds. She's 14 1/2 months and 20 lbs. She hasn't gained ANY weight in the past mont. She is crawling now though which I'm sure is why she hasn't gained weight. I guess i'm more curious on how to do boluis feeds or make the transition from continuous to bolus. Like I said, more out of curiosity than doing it. As my husband says "we don't want to give her a cheeseburger" (which is what he says if he feels i'm being too agressive in upping her dose and trying to get her continuous ounces down. lol

I am sorry I don't have any help as Kara was never on continuous feeds, but I am sure some one will chime in shortly. Good news on the increase so far - with our tube kids it seems that slow and steady wins the race!

well hannah goes at 38/hr all night.. which is supossed to be.. from 9 to 7a,, which to do the math is 10 hours so its like 380ml.. well during the day i am suposed to bolus her 4 times at 95ml each time. of 30 calorie formula. 95x4 is 380 which is the same as what she would get all night... but we dont do it exactly like that anymore cuz she's eating a jar of food (good lord willing) each time i feed her during the day.. so we slack off a couple hours of the night feed and cut her to only 3 feeds a day... but i guess your gonna have to talk to your dietician or gi cuz the calories gotta add up.. and if she dont tolerate a lot of volume at one time during the day your could do higher cals and less volume... when we did 4 feeds a day, it was every three hours. 9 12 3 6, start pump at 9 at night. hope i helped some ..

Could you try continious over night and bolus during the day? So glad to hear that you've managed to up the amount, that's great :)
I've not seen you around for a while, I hope all's well!
i actualy spoke about this very topic with mikis medical team last week and when we try again to transition her to blous feeds this is how we are going to try and do it
she is on 40mls and hour 24 hours a day( thats if she tolerates)
so how we are to do it is switch her pump of for 2 hours and then check how much is left in her tummy if it is less than 10mls we are then to give her a 40mls then we are wait an 2 hours then check again then give her another 40mls the idea is to eventualy get it so she is havinh 40 mls every hour then 80 every two ect
we have tried it with miki but it didnt work last time as she gaged the whole time and stil had a full tummy after 4 hours so we went back to continuos feeds we weil try again soon
By the way how os Emma going with everything else

Elaina, I'm so not much help either right now...Ava's not even able to take 150 cc overnite right now.:hissyfit:
How long of a break does she get off the continuous? Maybe you could start by inceasing the break time(s)? If you decide to try a bolus, do it super slow...maybe start w/ like 90 cc and run it over an hour? Just stay there with her and see how it goes?
Sorry, I'm not much help right now, but I'll try to pop back in later after I've had a few cups of coffee...I'm like the walking dead right now.:banghead:

Hi,
When we transitioned Larissa from continuous to bolus, we stopped the pump for the day, and gave her small (50ml) bolus with the gravity bag or pump over 20min, then we slowly increased this amount to 150ml and 20min over about 6 months. By this time, her stomach was able to handle the larger amount. We were able to increase the continuous overnight to compensate for the missed day food. We still did the overnight feeds (from 11pm-6am) for many more months. Then finally we weaned her off the night feed. Now her bolus is 235ml at a time thereabouts. We just put the extension in and if there is backflow up the tube, we hold off on the bolus for another 1/2 hour and check again.
this was a very slow process, but well worth it, as the freedom from the continuous feed is amazing. good luck.

sorry I am not much help as we have always done bolous feeds but one thing I noticed with dd when we try to increase her intake is that she was very sensitive to the rate it was pumped in- ie if she took 100 cc's it had to go in no faster than the rate of 100 if we tried 110 she would vomit it all during the flush.
I wish you good luck :)
