We are into our second week at feeding therapy and luckily Connor showed his dislike of textures so they didn't dismiss us! He's still doing great with lots of foods which I'm very happy about and even eating diced peaches so he's at least getting some fruit. For the most part, I would say he's eating like a normal kiddo, except when it comes to textures like pudding, yogurt, applesauce ect. He screams if you put them near his tray. HIs feeding therapist thinks that his issues stem from a sensory issue which is what I thought all along. We are working on getting him to touch pudding right now. I'm suppose to put some chocolate pudding in a plastic baggy and he has to touch the bag 5 times. Each time he touches it he gets rewarded by bubbles or he can push the button on a toy ect. After he touches the closed bag 5 times then she wants him to put his finger in the bag and get some pudding on his finger. This is where he really has trouble. I'm also suppose to do playdoh with him everyday and either fingerpaint or the pudding bag. Her goal is for him to be able to let some pudding touch his lips in the next few weeks. If he doesn't make any progress, she may put feeding therapy on hold and send him to OT. She said it's not detrimental that he eats this type of texture since he is doing so well with other foods but she worries about what will happen when he goes to school and has to experience all the different sensory things and art projects. So I will let you know how things continue to go. I really like his Feeding therapist and he does too which is great!

Please keep us updated on this sensory issue! Max has "issues" too. I'm worried about preschool for him. Some stuff makes him gag just when he looks at it...even theraband (you know that stretchy rubbery exercise stuff).

Sounds like you have a great feeding therapist.

best wishes,
Vicky

Interesting Kim....I didn't realise he was that sensative to gooey too...Jayden hates it...I have playdough and he wont touch it...he freaked out when he got finger paint on his hands...but he will play in a mess on his high chair tray???
Well I'm glad you both like her ..you know what a difference that makes....How does he react to the pudding in the bag? I will have to try this with Jayden.

I'm so glad that both you and Connor like his therapist--and that there's a plan in place!

How is he doing with touching the bag of pudding? (Now there's a phrase I never thought I'd use..."bag of pudding" :-)) Is he beginning to be less apprehensive about touching the bag? I find this fascinating--please keep us updated!

Interesting approach with the bag of pudding...Joshua is kinda the same way in terms of touching foods like that. He's just recently gotten better with it.

Glad to hear that the therapy is going well! :smt041 Is he still on Neocate then?

As Mary said I find this so interesting also.

I know my bf has sensory issues (mostly tags in his shirts); I also do ....cannot stand the bathroom fan on. I am sure we have other issues also. I think most people have something.

But I am wondering won't children just kind of gradually grow out of issues like that?

Maybe Connor will never like pudding, or even yogurt so what if he never ate stuff like that. So what if he doesn't play with fingerpaints? KWIM?

I guess I am wondering when SID intervention is important? Again, would the child just naturally outgrow?

Kim, I don't mean to downplay this or even say Connor doesn't need it. I just was thinking about it. I thoroughly loved reading the SI book "Out of Sync Child"

Please update us.
