View Full Version : Hollar all you asthma and breathing difficulty people!
steveangela1 04-16-2007, 01:14 PM ANyone whos gerdlings have asthma, tracheomalaica, laryngomalacia, reactive airway, any type of breathing troubles, inculding apnea. This is a ROLL CALL I'm coping Lori's great idea with the allergy forum as a new community leader.
For me, I am a respiratory therapist
My oldest son had reactive airway and has grown out of it (thank goodness) (wyatt hes 5)
My youngest is Carson he has laryngo-tracheomalacia, and reactive airway. He was also on an apnea monitor for about 4 months.
Brenna has reactive airways disease. So far only viral induced, but you never know when it's going to pop up and bite you. I have a steady supply of Albuterol and Pulmicort waiting for allergy season to really kick into gear. I'll just play it by ear since I do this for a living.
Emily M 04-16-2007, 05:36 PM here... ROFL.. :smt041
Oh, not officially diagnosed, but we suspect asthma...
.5 of Albuterol every 4 hours Pulmicort twice a day. *sigh*
Shaes Grammy 04-16-2007, 05:36 PM I am a bit older than these GERDLings but I was also diagnosed with asthma.
I have soooo much better since the QVar and Singulair. QVar especially was the miracle drug for me.
Today, I started sneezing like crazy at work, I think I may be getting a cold (which I never do) but it seems it is making my asthma act up.....sigh
steveangela1 04-19-2007, 01:27 PM THIS IS A BUMp
BraydenandBrynasMom 04-19-2007, 08:01 PM I'm sure I fit here, but I have a question...
I didn't get asthma until I was 27 years old...and I mostly ignore it. So I'm not very knowedgeable about it. I've been told that both my kids have asthma and I know they have an official diagnosis of it NOW with their current allergist/immuniologist. However, I have been compiling records on them and have found that records from just a few months ago say that at least Bryna has a history of "Reactive Airway Disease." Does this matter - Do I just call it Asthma and move on? That is what their medicalert bracelets say anyways.
hpaterniti 04-19-2007, 08:06 PM I am here.......I have reactive airway disease...since I was a baby.
Dylan, son, reactive airway
Rylie, daughter, asthma and reactive airway

I had asthma as a baby until I was a teenager. Then it sort of got better and now occassionally I have issues but they are rare. Oddly, it spikes up when I am suffering from an ulcer or such. Go figure. :smt036
Walker "started down the path to asthma" (quote from Ped) and then settled and has no issues since he was a toddler. Once he got over his blue episodes as a toddler (suspected silent reflux) it all cleared up and has not had a problem since.
Curran was gasping for air with multiple infections as a youngster and well into toddlerhood. I have heard him labelled as asthmatic, but I refuse to accept that. He is fine for the most part and just prone to issues when his reflux is raging and it has not been an issue for nearly a year. He had recurrent pneumonia only last year but has been great since we got a handle on his reflux. (LOVING the Prevacid!) We still have flovent and ventolin for him as required.
Iain was labelled as asthmatic at 7 months of age. He was not yet diagnosed as a GERDling and our ped allergist who did diagnose reflux calls it "GERD with the asthma connection". I suspect this is what Curran has as well. Iain on the other hand has had many more breathing issues and has flovent pumped into him on a daily basis. He is a total and complete snotball most of the time and prone to infections. Loads of fun.
sixdogssixcats 04-19-2007, 08:27 PM Two asthmatic kidlets here. The boy with moderate chronic small airway disease and the girl with illness-induced asthma, although she's on a daily maintenance program as well as she is sick all the :censored: time.

Reactive airways and asthma are two diff diagnosisi. However almost all asthmatics have reacitve airway. REactive airway is just a fancy way of saying hyper active airways.. when exposed to certian stimuli they will constrict.
Honestly all the studies and reports that Ih ave ever come in contact with plus talking to pulmonologist they cannot diagnois officially asthma in children until they are big enough to do a pulmonary function test. (3 and up)..
REactive airway is the proper diagnosis and more accurate for babies and toddlers.
eaglemansbaby1124 04-19-2007, 09:04 PM Brianna HAs severe asthma and KC has asthma as well. Betweenthe two we have our own pharmacy in the cabinet. Not to mention my meds.
