First off I am sure this is probably going to be long, so bear with me.

A little background, Parker diagnosed reflux at 6 weeks was on zantac although not working till 16 months, Doctors didn’t treat it properly, and pretty much fobbed me off every time I told them something was up. We had a really rough time with things, Parker has had a whole list of reflux side effects, that I still to this day do not believe would have come about, if we had been given the better meds earlier on.

So at 16months we were given losec 20mg, this was like a Godsend, honestly, everything that he was having problems with started to lessen, he was a typical get better on the med kind of kid, though if we missed a dose, or if the med was getting too old or if he was sick, the reflux would come back, I knew it was still there, he was still crappy a lot but in all so much better.

We increased his dose right up till November 2006, to 30mg as he was struggling.

In July 2006 we started seeing a homeopath, as a last resort basically as like I said on meds fine, but the reflux was really bad, test confirmed this. So from July till November I went once a month and got different treatments for Parker, to be honest, I didn’t see anything working ( and she admits nothing was working) I said I would give it 6 months. Then in late November we were given a remedy that I noticed something was happening with, I don’t know if it was it, or just time who knows… but his myclonic jerks which up to that point were really bad started lessening, his physical reflux signs were also decreasing.

In January 2007 we weaned him per GI’s instructions so he could get re tested, her thoughts at the last appointment, was Parker was a lifer, so we had to fully wean and see how he did, well it was shaky and at first I thought it was a disaster, but the longer he was off the med the better he did, we repeated the pH probe and it indicated minimal reflux, nothing like before.

So things have been a little up and down, his sleep though had been crappy, and I would notice at least a couple of times a day some reflux things, hiccups, urping (thanks Minnie) choking etc… so this was on and off. We would also have a really bad day about once a week.

Two weeks ago we saw the homeopath again, and she gave us another remedy, this is the only medication he has been on, and he has been (can I say it) perfect! No reflux at all, no aggression nothing! And best of all he is sleeping, right through, no waking (which was basically him up for hours, or in our bed).

So the question is, am I mad to think that the homeopathic’s could actually have helped? Or do you think it is possible that in the space of a couple of weeks (at the age of 2 years 4 months) for him to have ‘outgrown’ the reflux? Has anyone had anything similar happen to them?

I just wanted to add, that prescribed medication is the only proven way to medicate a reflux baby, and if you were thinking of going to a homeopath or trying homeopathy you should go to a qualified homeopath and never use over the counter remedies with other medications. Some may interfere with prescription medications and make them inactive.

Also homeopathics should work ALONGSIDE prescription medications, your homeopath should never tell you to stop taking medications prescribed by your doctor.

If using homeopathics, please wait 15minutes before eating, drinking, brushing your teeth or other medications.

I don't think that you are crazy to think that the homeopath has cured him.
You obviously believe in it or you wouldn't have taken him there to begin with, KWIM?

It sounds to me like it is helping. This is FANTASTIC.... :yahoo:

You are not crazy Rach, well, not because of this. :rolling:

Reminds me of my post a few days ago on the faith healer. LOL I don't think you're crazy at all. If he's doing that much better then something is definitely working for him. I don't knkow much about homepathics though. Was the remedy an herbal one?

I agree with Emily. I think it might have helped. We tout a lot of "medical" reasons why homeopathic remedies don't work, but people had to have something to bring relief before all of these expensive medications were developed. I definitely think there could be some benefit. Thanks for the disclaimer too.

I don't think you are crazy at all!

I am sure when some of todays common treatments for diseases were first used, they seemed a little strange. If it works - don't mess with it.

You are right, before modern medicine, something was done. So, it had to be natural things. Good point Lori. :smt036

Rach,
Anythings possible, and YES I have heard of people going to a homeopath for their child's reflux and having it work for them.
YES, I thought they were nuts, or maybe their child didn't have a problem to begin with and they were treating nothing in the first place.
YES, I was also very jealous and very curious, but not enough to actually try it myself. I'm scared to, and unless someone out right recommends one to me I wouldn't even know where to start looking, and I wouldn't trust that I found a good one on my own. KWIM?

Parker could have "out grown" his problems. Homeopathy may have helped, Maybe even taking him off his medicine helped.
Regardless what actually happened inside that boys body I am truly happy for him, and it's wonderful that he's apparently reflux free.
ENJOY!!!! You have worked very hard, and cried a lot of tears to get where you are today. You deserve it whole heartedly and so does Parker.
Enjoy the gift that you have been given no matter where it came from, and I hope it lasts a life time.

That fact that he got so much better so soon after the new treatment, sure makes it seem like it must be working. I agree with the others, you are not carzy. You know you stuff, so there is no way you would take you kid to some nut job, this person must be good, if you like her.

I just hope he keeps doing so well!
