View Full Version : Anyone elses child have pyloric stenosis Melissacarl 03-09-2007, 01:27 AM My son had pyloric stenosis, and had surgery at 4 weeks. He is now a serious GERDLING... anybody else out there with same symptoms? Amy 03-09-2007, 02:00 AM yep miki had PS and was repaired at 4 weeks she is a gerdling we found out about 48 hours after her surgetry thatPS was not the whole problem with miki also there is a fair few babies on here that had the same thing i know lena girl Maggie had PS realy bad mikis was bad but from what i know of magies hers was exceptionaly bad around 8 weeks or maybe more when fixed which is really late any way im sure she will fil you in on the situation I know even to this day the misdiagnoses when she was suffering with the PS still frustrates her as it would Lena 03-09-2007, 07:27 PM Amy's right. Maggie wasn't diagnosed until 8 weeks because her ped was too busy thinking I had post partum depression instead of actually listening to me. I really think there is a connection between PS and GERD. Melissacarl 03-09-2007, 08:42 PM What is wrong with doctors??? I'm so sorry you went through that experience! You mentioned a connection between PS and GERD. I have thought the same thing, but GIs have said there was no connection. Did your child also have problems with stomach emptying slowly months after the surgery? Amy 03-10-2007, 04:49 AM i agree about the link of PS and gerd when i first took miki to the dr about the PV from the ps i was told iwas a paranoid mum and she had wet colic WTF she had aspirated an entire feed as well as shot the next feeds about 4 feet across the room she had a endoscopy a few months ago as teh barium showed ehr pyloris was still to thick but the endoscopy showd it to be wide enough so she will soon have a DGE test to see if she stil has emptying problems Lena 03-10-2007, 05:28 PM Maggie had dumping syndrome post op but they now believe she also has DGE. her pylorus no longer closes so she leaks liquids but we don't know for sure with solids. She's a non-eater so we've never been able to go through with an emptying scan on solids. Leigh 03-10-2007, 05:50 PM No PS here, but I am shocked that GI's do not seem to think there is a connection betwen PS and GERD?! Are you kidding me? Maybe I just spend too much time here, but really I see a connection, even though most of our GERDlings do not have PS. Melissacarl 03-10-2007, 10:48 PM Ok, serious bell just went off in my head. You guys mentioned that yours were noneaters, and liquid feeders. My son eats, or drinks I should say, most of his diet using pedia sure. (I would say 65% is liquid, and 35% is solid.) I thought it was "behavioral" and am trying to get him to "eat" more. Yet he wants pedia sure most of the time. Wild that yours also are "non eaters"... Hmmmm, pyloric and GERD??????? My son has had an emptying study done, and found that his stomach does empty slowly, and then had an ultrasound of his pyloric done at about 6 months. It came back as "borderline" after surgery..... what ever that means.....(This was after I was seeing some of the same projectile signs again. I think the doctor wanted to "calm that crazy red head down" LOL) I'm beginning to think there might be a conection between pyloric and reflux, especially if surgery wasn't done correctly or on time........ I'm going to get copies of the doctor's reports and do some more research! Do I sound paranoid??? Or just wanting some desperate answers and HELP for my little man. Melissacarl 03-10-2007, 11:00 PM Ok, quite ignorant! What is DGE and dumping syndrome? Amy 03-11-2007, 01:51 AM melisa if the ultrs sound of the pyloris came back border line which is the same as mikis did i would ask them to do an endoscopy and check it out properly DGE is delayed gastric emptying dumpinmg syndrome is where the stomache empties to quickly i dont know anything about the two conditions but if you go to the main page of the forums you will find info on it under other conditions |
