Hi there,

A quick question. Eric has laryngopharyngeal reflux (refluxes all the way up into his nose) and has been really rubbing his eyes and crying that they hurt for the last six months or so....maybe longer. This has been getting worse in the last few months so I decided to take him to an eye doctor. They checked him all out and everything is normal. I told her about his reflux, and she said that the reflux might be irritating his eyes just like when you get sick with a flu and your eyes hurt. She also said allergies might be the cause (which is likely cause I have major allergies). Just wondering if anyone else had heard of this. Thanks!

Tannis

Does he have frequent sinus infections due to the reflux? If so, that could definitely make your eyes hurt.

Hmm... that is a new one for me, but I don't know about anyone else.

Hi

My kids lots of eye/nose rubbing....I often wondered if it was reflux/allergy related
I've heard on this board when parents tried weaning their kids off meds, and reflux symptoms flared they started face, eye, nose rubbing
How are the meds going?
Maybe zantac isn't strong enough...but I know you've had issues with him taking the tabs etc....I can't think of what else you could try????

Thanks guys! I don't think Eric has actually had alot of sinus infections, maybe one. He is just really sensitive to light and temperature....just a pretty sensitive kid overall. I am going to request more up to date allergy testing as I had major allergies as a child. Thanks so much. Just had wondered if anyone else had heard of this. Take care.

I think it definitely makes sense

I also have reflux and asthma. I use to get a lot of sinus infections and the past two winters I have also had very red, itchy swollen eyes. Very strange and I never connected it to the sinus infections (they came at different times)....but now that you mention it definitely makes sense to me.

The eye dr gave me a very very very tiny tube and it cleared up pretty quick. I had tried two other tubes from general dr but I had to see the eye dr to get the stuff that helped.

Thanks for your question.
