ok....so we get the Fastabs...thinking they will be fantastic! The first night he loved it. The second night he spit it all out over the floor. The third night he would not take it whatsoever! I tried to force it in his mouth, but he wouldn't close his mouth very well and the tablet ended up all over his face as it dissolved (even with my trying to force his mouth closed). This was a horrible experience. I tried once again today, but he would not even take it. He even went to hide behind the chair and cried. I tried dissolving the tablet like the pharmacy suggested and having him drink it. He did try it, but spit it out and cried, refusing to take any more. I think we are just not going to be able to have him on Prevacid. I have tried everything I can think of....the capsules on applesauce (he spits this out), the liquid compound (which is nasty and he spits out), and now the Fastabs. He was on the Zantac and was doing so much better. I think we are just going to stick with that for now and give up on the Prevacid. It is just so frustrating. I don't know what else to do. He said that reason he didn't like the Fastabs was because they were too sweet. He does not like change at all, and for some reason decided he doesn't like these and will NOT take them under circumstances. Gotta love the three year old independence. Sometimes I wish he was still little and would take whatever I gave him. It is so much harder now. Anyways...since being off the Zantac, he has had a few really bad nights again. I hope once he is back on the Zantac for a day or so things will improve again. His eating has cut back since going off Zantac as well. Thanks for listening to my vent.... :) Just so frustrated!!
Take care.

Hi
Sorry to hear the tabs were a bust
Maybe if the zantac helps but you think he needs more help...try in a few mnths
Zach loved them when he was older...about 2yr+...he thought they were candy and begged for them
I hope things improve once he is back on zantac for a bit...glad to hear your getting some sleep!

Hi Tannis,
Poor Eric. I really sympathize with you. They certainly do know what they want even at 3!
I am also on Nasonex and Qvar. If I miss even one Qvar I am a mess.
Does the GI have any suggestions for getting the meds into Eric?
Best wishes
Jean

I'm sorry he wont take them! My kids have been on meds so long that they actually fight over who gets medicine first! Does he like apple juice? Mine actually don't like the tabs alone, but when we were on them they were fine with the tab dissolved in a few cc's of apple juice. We gave it in a syringe, but I think you could try it in a spoon too. I'm not sure if that would help it be less "sweet" or not...

I am sorry he won't take them, but he may get used to them, zantac and prevacid can be given at the same time, (prevacid 30mins before a meal and zantac not within an hour of a PPI) so you could keep him on the zantac and give the prevacid a bit more of a go, that way you have nothing to loose as he is still getting the zantac know what I mean?
Then in a couple of weeks you may be able to see if the prevacid is making him any better? When my son was on zantac I thought that that was as good as it got, and we did the same kept him on the zantac and then introduced the losec and the difference being on them both was phenomonal.
I hope that helps and he starts sleeping again!

Wow! Great advice! I didn't know for sure if you could have them on both meds. I think I will try your recommendations. For now, his doctors don't have any ideas. We are seeing his ENT next week, so I will ask him as he is the one who prescribed the prevacid to start with. I think I will try mixing it with apple juice. Does this affect the effectiveness of the medication? I am so worried as these meds all seem so particular. Also, for the Zantac......how soon after a meal can he have this. We have a couple of times given it with a snack before bed. I think we will cut out the snack before bed and see if this improves things. Thank you everyone!!! Things aren't the greatest. He was up again most of the night last night. He actually verbalized it pretty clearly. I asked him what was hurting him. He said he had a burning sip in his throat and then pointed to his chest. Poor little man! :( I really think he needs the Prevacid. I will try the apple juice idea tonight! Thanks so much! Take care.
