My daughter is 8 weeks old and has milk protein allergies. She has been suffering with allergy induced colitis and reflux and has been in lots of pain for over 5 weeks. We are on day 3 of Neocate(switched from 2.5 weeks of alimentum) and see no improvements. Her abdomen/intestines seem to be bothering her more so these last couple of days. Her stools are almost black, ( I read that was normal) but her stools and gas are very foul smelling. (almost sickly smelling) Is this normal? What causes this? How long might this last?

It is not to surprising to me that a change of formula to this elemental one may cause a change in the odor of the stools. I have not heard of this in the few kids I have had on Neocate, but I'm sure it happens and is probably a temporary effect. I would give the formula at least a week before deciding if it will be effective.
