View Full Version : How did you meet your Significant Other?
Christine 02-14-2007, 01:40 PM I thought this was an good day for this question. We posted wedding pics - but - how did your meet your husband/boyfriend?
I actually married my highschool sweetheart. We have been together since I was 15 years old. We met at a party - nothing too exciting. We got married when I was 24, and waited until I was 31 to have a baby. We move kind of slow. (There was actually too much school going on in the middle - I will blame that)
So......how did you meet?
JenniferN 02-14-2007, 01:53 PM My husband was a really close friend of my cousins he would come to our family parties we even went to highschool together; same grade. It was not until after high school that my ex & I broke up that we got together.
My cousin had a party & my husband and I stayed up all night talking once everybody else had left or gone to bed (worst part was that it was a Sunday & we both had to work) we both went to work Monday morning with no sleep....
This one day I was getting ready for work (living wth mom & dad) and it was really cold outside I looked outside to see if my car had ice on it that needed to be scrapped and it was already scrapped I just thought that my mom had done it when she left for work. I was very happy & took my time to get ready..... When I went out to my car there were 2 roses on the windshield and he was sitting in his car to surprise me.... Nobody had ever done anything that nice for me I knew he was the one.... Sorry this is sappy....
We will be married 5 years this Sep. now I have to beg to get my windows scrapped....
Miori 02-14-2007, 01:59 PM On Match.com!! :smt036 Yep, we are one of those couples!
Dh and I both met when we were 30 and so over the dating scene! We emailed/chatted for about a month before we got together. But, once we had our first "date" we knew it was the right relationship. We were engaged a month later, and married 8 mths after that.
Becky in NM 02-14-2007, 02:00 PM I had an unpaid internship at Boston Magazine between my junior and senior years of college. Since I knew nobody in Boston and had never even been there before, I hated the idea of sitting in an apartment all by myself. So I started calling universities to see if I could stay in a dorm -- it'd be a lot cheaper anyway. I ended up taking a room at a fraternity at MIT -- about half the guys stay for the summer, and they rent the other half of the rooms to girls. Hmmm, I wonder why.... Anyway, John was one of those guys who stayed, and we had such a fun summer in a very intersting city.
After I graduated the following year, I moved back to Boston since John was in a graduate program.
He was 19 and I was 20 when we met. We got married when he was 23 and I was 24. We finally left Boston after he got his degree in 2001, had D in 2003, and will welcome Gus (or maybe Buddy) into our family next Friday. Then we're done -- mom, dad, boy, and pup.

Minnie 02-14-2007, 02:13 PM DH and I went to high school together and I dated his best friend for years.
Dh moved out of state after high school, and ended up in Daytona Beach. He still kept in touch with us and we all (our group of buddies)talked at least once a week. I needed to get away from everything (it was getting really bad, but that's a whole other story) and he offered to let me stay with him until I got settled on my own.
Well you can't live with a hottie without eventually having something happen. The rest is history!
kimber 02-14-2007, 02:17 PM Cute thread
Dh and I were met when we were 16/17
My friend's mom dropped us off at the movies, but we were too late and missed the movie
It was the summer and we were waiting outside on a bench to be picked up and Dh was hanging out with his friends...the rest his history
Awwwww
anna1 02-14-2007, 02:18 PM At a bar! How embarrasing! Actually I was sober...in college and I was the bartender! My dh used to come in every Wed. just to see me and have a beer, we would talk for hours. Eventually he asked me out, our first date was on Valentine's Day...5 years ago. We have been married for 1 1/2 years.
Debbie 02-14-2007, 02:34 PM The first time I SAW my dh was in homeroom and he came slinking into class bandana head and flannel shirt ...EWWW!! total burnout...Couldn't stand him...LOL my best friend was dating his best friend and hooked us up for a movie ...still couldn't stand him...LOL I ended up at a bombfire party at his house..and acctually got to know him and he was really sweet...he still is!
Eliana's Mommy 02-14-2007, 02:42 PM I'll let you know when I meet him ..... hopfully one day soon. As this girl ain't getting any younger. I'll be 32 in August.
High school through mutual friends. We weren't high school sweethearts though... I refused to date a military man!
OOOOH, fun thread!
DH and I originally met in '89 because I worked at a bookstore with a couple of his buddies. So I met him when he'd come in to BS with his friends, but we just remained acquaintances because I was in a serious relationship with someone else. Then our paths crossed again in '96 when I got reunited with one of my best friends. As she and I were catching up, I found out that DH and her brother hung out regularly. So we all started going out in a big group on the weekends and DH and I had the opportunity to actually get to know each other.
The night we GOT TOGETHER, DH, my aforementioned friend and I ended up sitting together at a bar talking. Well, DH was cracking me up and all of a sudden the lightning bolt HIT me (no, it wasn't "beer goggles" even though we were all pretty buzzed) and I thought, "Hey, he's CUTE!" *SWOON* So I leaned over to my friend and whispered in her ear, "Would you care if I hit on Steve?" (since he was her brother's friend and things could get complicated) and she replied, "Of all my brother's friends, he's the only one who'd be GOOD ENOUGH for one of MY friends! Go for it!"
So later that night, he and I were drunk dancing to "Oh! What a Night (December 1963)" and thanks to all the liquid courage...*I* kissed him! It was great! So we made out like mad for the rest of the night, but he further exhibited what a GREAT guy he was by excusing himself when one of his buddies interrupted us to tell Steve that another buddy was getting sick in the bathroom of the bar. I thought, "Wow, this guy will postpone a HOT makeout session to take care of his drunk friend! Now THAT'S loyalty!" I also asked him later if he would have hit on me if I hadn't kissed him and he admitted that I intimidated him. His quote was that I was one of the "flashiest" girls he ever dated! LMAO (Ahhh, to remember the days of being in your early 20s and getting "vamped up" to go barhopping! ROFL)
And we've since realized that we've been on a "2-Year Plan"...we started dating in '96, bought our first house together in '98, got married in '00, bought our second house in '02, had Jack in '04 and had Michael in '06! So we're thinking in '08, we'll either finish our basement, get a hot tub, or buy a "summer house". But who knows...

Aim - you are too funny.
I vote for the hot tub!
we met on a blind date- my sister met him when he was at her showroom and she gave him my telephone number then sent me an email to tell me to expect a call. We talked on the phone for a few nights before our first date and I knew from those conversations that he was pretty remarkable and once I met him that sealed the deal :)

ssevart 02-14-2007, 04:00 PM DH and I met at a party at his house.....nothing special except the fact that I was there with another guy on a date and he just kind of took over my heart. Way to great of a guy to pass up!!!
Glad I met him when I did though- he is my angel in disguise! :love3:
AvasMommy 02-14-2007, 05:08 PM LoL...mine's not one to tell the grandkids!
I met dh at a bar, he bought me yellow rose, and I took him home about an hour later. We've been inseperable ever since. The longest one night stand ever!
On an interesting side note, the bar we met at is the one where my mom and stepdad had their first date, and I was a nanny for the first owner when I was younger.
manda40475 02-15-2007, 11:55 AM Mine is a bit embarrassing, but here we go.
Nick and I met on hotornot.com. :smt036 I had been on there for around four years and was also a moderator. Every once in awhile I would pay for a month's membership just to find new people to talk to. (Although I also dated a few guys as well.) Ironically enough, dh and I had paid for a membership on the same day and he had clicked that he wanted to meet me. It was a Friday (9-2-05) after work and I sent him my information and we started talking on Yahoo messenger. I was telling him how I was supposed to meet up with some friends at a bar that night, but didn't feel like going. He convinced me to get out and said he would meet me there and if I wasn't enjoying myself, he would take me somewhere else.
I didn't make it into Lexington until around 10:30pm and my car almost breaking down on me. LOL I met Nick at a bar and he bought me a drink. We sat on the outside patio and talked for about an hour until he suggested going to a different bar. So we left and went to another place that was packed, but sat in the back room and talked and drank until the bar closed at 1:30am. I was a bit buzzed and wasn't sure I could drive myself back home, so we went to his place. I honestly hadn't intended on doing anything, but he made the first move and we slept together that same night. Later that morning he drove me to my car and asked me to come back that night, but I had already made other plans.
However, I did go back on Sunday night and spent the night again. The next day after I got home, he called me and told me he loved me. That's right...three days after we started talking. LOL By Friday, we were engaged and buying rings. Over the next week he was pushing for marriage and wanted to go ahead and start trying for a baby. Only thing was my divorce from my ex wasn't final yet. LOL My divorce was finalized on 10-4-05. Nick and I married on 10-7-05, exactly 5 weeks to the day we met. I was pregnant two months later.
Minnie 02-15-2007, 12:13 PM Amanda!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHH!
I'm shocked!
and look at all the things you did that you aren't supposed to do!
You wild woman! ;) LOL
manda40475 02-15-2007, 12:40 PM LOL Minnie! Well I wasn't too concerned with "things I wasn't supposed to do". My first husband and I had a child before we married. :evil4: I did want to be married first this time around though...and we were! hahaha We've now been together for a year and five months. People are shocked at how quickly we married, but he's the best thing to ever happen to me and the kids.
