We have been working on transitioning Mason to milk now for 3 weeks (he turned one last month). But anytime his bottle is more than half full of milk (more than 4 oz) he is guaranteed to barf up curdled milk.

But he has been on regular milk-based formula (enfamil) and he has been eating cheese and yogurt no problems since he was 7 months old.

So I am confused as to why he can't seem to tolerate more than 4 oz of whole milk at a time. He doesn't seem bothered by it, other than the after taste. Not to mention, the cottage cheese look and my carpet don't mesh well, heh.

Anyway, I just wondered if this is common or what. We have been at the half and half mark for 2 weeks now and I just can not seem to get him to tolerate more. Based on his formula and all the cheese and yogurt, I would assume he has no milk allergy. So what gives?

Do we need to switch to something else? Do i just elave him on formula? Or do I keep trying to push it?

Thanks!

Hi,

This is hard for me to explain. This doesn't sound like a lactose intolerance if he is doing well with the formula and with the other dairy products. It doesn't sound like a milk protein intolerance, either. I would just continue the milk, perhaps diluted 1:1 for a couple of weeks and I suspect he will tolerate it.

Good luck, Dr. Olson
