We were just given the prevacid packets by our GI doctor when I found out that the solutabs had lactose in them. We know that Titus has a milk allergy, but don't know about lactose intolerance. With the solutabs, we broked the tabs in half and gave half in the am and half in the pm. Can I split the dose in the packets? I thought the pharmacy would mix the compound for me, but they didn't and didn't know anything about it. The 15mg packet requires 2 tbsp of water and that's 6 syringes full if the packet fully mixes. It's a lot of medication to get down a 9-month old at one time. Thanks for your help!

Hi Anna, Generally the lactose intollerance is an inabillity for the gi to properly digest the sugar lactose from the milk but is not an allergy. There are other products like protein in the milk that can cause milk allergy. Just because the protein allergy is there does not mean he can't have the lactose but sometimes a child may have both problems. Just checking the 30 mL volume for dilution seems small for a 9 month old to ingest. Am I misunderstanding this problem? Let me know, thanks.
