View Full Version : Anybody use the Britax Marathon?
Becky in NM 02-05-2007, 06:17 PM We have a Roundabout, but we're getting a second carseat in case DH has to pick up D from daycare at some point. The Marathon looks about the same, but it goes up to 65 pounds, whereas the Roundabout only goes to 40 pounds (although, I admit, I'm sure it'll be at least a year or two before we have to worry about hitting the limit).
Any experiences out there?
Thanks!
Becky, we bought the Marathon for the exact same reason. It goes up to 65lbs and I liked the styles of the Marathon better. We got all black, velvet/cloth combo and of course we love it. At least I don't have to worry about bying another carseat for a long time.
Good luck!
This is the one we got http://www.dreamtimebaby.com/macarsewlaby.html
Miori 02-05-2007, 07:44 PM The only downside to the Marathon is how big it is. It would not fit in our Saturn so we got the Roundabout, which we love. I would recommend that you go to Babies R Us and try it. They will let you take it out to your car first to see how it fits.
KaitlynsMom 02-05-2007, 10:09 PM We have the Marathon and for the higher weight too... there was no way I wanted to have to buy another dang care seat for awhile! No issues with it for us... we have a mid-size SUV and it fits fine.
Cam's sahm 02-05-2007, 10:43 PM We have it! As you already know, Britax makes awesome seats. I love the adjustable one tug straps, really smooth and easy. As miori said though, fit it in the car before buying it. I have a VW jetta and it's snug. She won't fit when she's older, well? Maybe but her little toes are already toughing my driver seat! We're getting an Oddessy as soon as we get a friggin house.
I, too, have the Marathon for B and really like it. Just like Ginette said, it's a piece of cake to install/operate the straps.
I have an '06 Nissan Altima and it fits just fine. Right now we have B in the middle of the backseat, but it does fit nicely behind the driver's/passenger seat. You might want to invest in one of those back-of-the-seat plastic covers to protect in case Daniel has dirty shoes/kicks the seat in front of him. Otherwise, no issues. :-)
scarlet 02-06-2007, 05:43 AM If you are going for a child and not a baby I would recommend a booster/car seat all in one. This one goes to 80 pounds and doubles as a booster, with just the seatbelt when they are older. I think this is similar to the one we have, we have safe n sound over here, but britax and safe and sound are the same company.

It is so much easier to get in and out also!
OwensMom 02-06-2007, 06:09 AM We have the Marathon for Owen and I really like it.
I'm with Rachel though, why not buy the Regent as it goes up to 85lbs. That is the next one we'll buy whenever Owen grows out of the Marathon, which probably won't be until a couple years.
Katey 02-06-2007, 07:35 AM I am torn between the regant and the marthon for Sebastian. We have a round about, but I am going to move the new baby into that and get Sebastian a new seat. I like that the regant goes up to 85 lbs, but it is really expensive and in all reality am I really going to make him used a car seat until he is 85 lbs. Dh and I were both really skinny kids, so he could be in middle school before he hit that weight.
Becky in NM 02-06-2007, 08:46 AM DH is really concerned about going the booster seat route, even if he falls within the weight requirements. He just thinks it won't be as safe as a carseat. But I'd just need to find some safety rating info. Or just go with the Marathon. We have an Avalon, so I bet it'd fit OK.
Thanks for all of your advice!
Mag just outgrew her roundabout heightwise and I originally went out to buy a marathon but Mag would have outgrown it within the year if not sooner so we went ahead and got a regent.
Becky in NM 02-06-2007, 02:01 PM Because of her height, Lena?
Yes Becky. She's tall and has a long torso, her shoulders were above the top slot in her roundabout. She'll never outgrow a car seat by weight.
meaganschaefer 02-06-2007, 02:24 PM We love are Britax just the same as everyone, so you don't have to worry with another one ever! It fits nice in my Honda Odessey
thepeach80 02-17-2007, 04:53 PM If you guys ever have carseat questions please pm me! I'd love to help. :) The Regent only goes to 80# and is not a booster after that.
I would have him sit against a wall and measure from the floor to his shoulders. That'll give torso height and we can pick a good seat. Your dh is right though, a harnessed seat is much safer than just a booster and definitely not reccomemded before age 4, often later in boys.

We got the Roundabout too. I read in several reviews and my Baby Bargains book that the Marathon, b/c of it's size is not good for travel. But if you have the other Roundabout you should be fine. I plan on just using standard boosters when my kids grow out of their Roundabouts.

Just remember a child needs to be at LEAST 4 before moving to a booster (sometimes later based on maturity). My oldest outgrew the Roundabout in height at age 3.
peteandlily'smom 06-07-2007, 12:03 AM We have 4 Marathons and they are all great! Easy install and easy to get the kids in really snug! We had Decathlons prior to Marathons and I do not recommend these at all. I think that we had 4 total (2 originals and 2 replacements) which all had faulty release push buttons -- one broke when I was traveling solo with my almost 2 year old, 3 hrs. from home, in a snow storm, and 8 months pregnant! Britax was great about sending us new seats each time and seems to be a great company with really helpful customer service. The Marathons are the way to go.
