I just wanted to share that we had a particularly poor experience with a chiropractor, so I wanted to give a warning to others that might be considering this as an alternative therapy.

First off, both babies vomited the afternoon after their "adjustment" so it didn't seem to have any effect.

But much worse was that we were told that the first consultation would be free. The doctor did an adjustment, and then went into a sales pitch of how we should sign up for six months of appointments, and that for today's adjustment we owed them $100! My wife paid, had I been able to go all he would have gotten out of me was explicit direction as to where he could go... For 6 months of adjustments, he wanted $800 for both twins treatment. Otherwise, each appointment would be $100.

So, be sure to ask if there will be any cost before letting a chiropractor touch your babies.

Otherwise, Audrey and Eli are doing very well on their Prilosec. The Dr. moved them up to 4ml twice daily when the lower dose wasn't alleviating all of their symptoms. They are sleeping much better at night, vomiting only once every few days, and while we do smell the acid from their tummies, we are not having multi-hour screaming episodes any more. We tried them with food, but the gas was so terrible for them, we went back to 100% breastmilk, and the gas went away. Apparently, their little digestive systems aren't ready for oatmeal, rice, or carrots yet. We'll try again in a couple of months.

We were concerned about the Prilosec with such young ones, which is why we took a friend's recommendation to try a chiropractor, but for us that wasn't a path worth pursuing. We tried to get cost information out of the chirop. prior to the apointment, I should have been suspicious when they wouldn't share that information until the appointment.

The twins continue to nurse well, though they hate taking the Prilosec. But it is worth the struggle to give it to them, as it has dramatically improved their lives. They play better, sleep better, and mommy and dad are much much better due to this. They are extremely cute in their jumparoo and johhny jump up, which they do for extended periods. It is a great way to tire them out before a nap.

I wish everyone well in their battle against the evil GER, and anyone with twins can feel free to contact me.

Well that just sounds like a bogus Chiro to begin with...I'm really sorry it was not a good experience for any of you....he should have clarified the consult was free but the adjustment was not...how sneaky......not all chiros are like that just as not all docs are jerks either.....Myself I have great faith in Chiros...good ones....my grandson went to one for a while for is neck and he really did help him .....but Ins didn't cover it or he would probably still be going.....but you do what you feel is right for you and your little sweeties!

It is always disappointing when a hopeful new treatment does not live up to expectations. Having said that, there are a few on the board who have had great things to say about using the adjustments for thier children. It really varies from child to child and situation to situation.

I can well imagine that it would come as a big shock to be told you have a $100 bill to pay when it was indicated that it would be a free. Personally, I have never heard of a chiro offering a free adjustment. They are in business same as anyone else. What you might want to do is pursue this with whoever told you it would be free. Did you get a name? Was it a special program? A new receptionist? Do not let one bad visit leave a bad taste in your mouth, though. My understanding is that it is a series of visits to become effective. Too bad that they did not make that clear to you. Sounds like there is a major communication issue in that office. :angry7:

What is awesome is your twins are improving with the prilosec! :yahoo: It IS worth the battle to medicate and it certainly makes it all worthwhile when you see improvement. :smt041 I thank you so much for sharing this with us as it means so much to know when refluxers are getting better. And to have twins... egad. We all respect parents of twin refluxers here. ;)

How old are Eli and Audrey now? Maybe when you get a chance you could put that in your signature line? It really helps us to keep track of ages and such, Bill. :)

Sorry the chiro was a quack! We have not tried that path ourselves, but I know some people have had success with it. I guess you just have to luck out and find a good one.

That is great that the babies are feeling much better and that you wife was able to keep up with the nursing, she must be a saint!!!

I hope things keep going well for them and you are able to keep enjoying them. They are such little cuties!!!

I have to second what Leigh said, I am one that had and still do have a wonderful experience with our chiropractor.

One thing that I HAVE to mention is that it is in no way a "one time fix" you have to keep it up. In the beginning of our treatment we went once a week, then it went to every other week. Every three weeks and now once a month. My son was a silent refluxer, but would spit up if I layed him down flat and then picked him up, etc. So, it did help us with this issue. TREMENDOUSLY. I could tell when he needed to go back, he would start spitting up again.
So, don't let one bad apple spoil the whole bunch. ;)
