Hi,

My ds is 7.5 months old and 20lbs, he is currently on 15mgs of Prevacid Solutabs and Axid 1.8 mls 1x per day for breakthru reflux. The prevacid intially worked very well for about a month and then my ds got sick a few times and since then it seems to have lost a lot of it's effectiveness, hence the GI adding the Axid. However this has not provided much relief, if any. Our GI is hesitant to up the prevacid solutab dose....why I don't know. Is this proper dose for a 20lb child? Also he mentioned switching to the prevacid compound liquid suspension. This I am unfamiliar w/ and do not understand how one form will be more effective than another. How is this possible? Should I push for an increase in the solutab or ask for a different med altogether??

Thank you, any advice is greatly appreciated!

Hi , a second dose 12 hours later of 15 more mg is possible, the doc may want to go less than that though and the liquid has the ability of giving mg increases at a time that you can't get with the solutab.
Thanks, Graham Ph.C.
