Nathan's turning 1 next month, i have no "plans" to take him off the bottle, because its still working good for him, but how do you gals thicken liquids and give them to your kids?

I mean you cant shake a CUP with the thickener. Or can you LOL?

you can actually just stir the thickened liquid... I still at 16 months have taken carsons bottle away for the same prob though.. his main source of nutrition is the elllcare.

Cononr still gets formula in bottles at almost 18 mos but it is his main source of nutrition so I just don't want to mess with a good thing KWIM! I do thicken his water with simply thick Nectar cons. and he gets that in a sippy cup and does great. I use to stir it but now I just kind of swirl it around and it works just as well:D

When I was using it with Rylie, I would stir it in. But it also depends on which one you use. The Simply Thick, I would stir, but the Thick-It, it worked better when I shook it.

Ethan is 19 months and still on a bottle because it control the flow of the liquid. I currently thicken everything to nectar consistancy. He sometime does ok with a sippy cup and thickened liquid but if he is tired he is more likely to aspirate. Do you think I should force the sippy more often?

If he is having issues w/ swallowing I would only do what he is comfortable with. Don't force the sippy cup more often. He will eventually take it more often on his own. My little guy is 2 years and 4 months and only in the past 6-7 months went from the bottle more frequent to the sippy cup 98 percent of the time and the bottle just for sleep which was a huge step for him, and because of his swallowing issues I let him take the steps on his own.

Thank you for the reply! That's what I thought would be best also and why I haven't pushed the sippy cup. We were just in the hospital on Wednesday and he had an oxygen sensor attached while I was giving him a bottle and his sats dropped to 85 while he was drinking. My dad thinks that I should force him to the sippy so that I don't have to worry about his oxygen. He has Central Sleep Apnea and is on Oxygen while he sleeps. His Peds Pulm Specialist said that if his stats continue to drop during the day he may have to be on oxygen 24/7....any advice?
