Hi, I was hoping to get some feedback on if you think my son is eating ok. He is now just over 13 months old. He has a variety of food allergies/intolerance and he is a very picky eater, so there are not many foods that he either can or will eat.

He used to eat about three jars of baby food and a half a cup of oatmeal a day. Since starting to eat finger foods, he is refusing to eat anything off the spoon. He only like things that are dry and crunchy. He will not eat any fruit at all and does not like juice.

Right now a normal days meals are:
Breakfast-1/3 of a piece of whole wheat bread toasted, a few bites of Rice Crispies
Lunch- a few bites of pasta or rice, a little bit of rice cake, a few bites of frozen steamed carrot (he will only eat it frozen) and two or three Earth’s Best baby cookies.
Snack- 4 or 5 baby cookies
Dinner-1/3 of piece toast, a few bites of rice cake, a few bites of carrot, handful of Gerber Puffs.

He drinks 24-28 oz of Nurtamigen a day. I am not too worried about nutrition, but that is the same amount he was drinking when he was eating baby food and he is now much more active.
He is currently about 22 lbs and 31 inches.

Thank you so much for your input!

Hi,,

Sounds like he is eating well. If he is healthy and getting that amount of Nutramigen in as you state, then he should do fine. Basically if his growth and development and weight are all OK, he is OK. Any thoughts you may have on lack of variety or nutritious content of food would be solved by a liquid multi-vit each day. My guess is that he doesn't really need this, although it would be safe.

Good luck, Dr. Olson
