My daughter is 6 1/2 mths old & weighs 15 lbs 13 oz and is 26 1/2 inches. She takes 3 ml prilosec 2x daily for reflux. It has always worked great until about 2-3 wks ago- now she spots up 1-3 x day & has thrown up more 2-3 x in the past 2 wks also. She is congested, sneezy & has a persistent dry cough. She also seems irritable at mealtime more now than ever before. She had been upped to 3 ml about 2 mths ago & was on 2 ml before that. Is it possible the med no longer works for her or she may need a higher dosage? Or could it be other things (like new solids/formula/teething) that is triggering the reflux more now? She eats rice cereal 2-3 x daily for about a mth now & eats jarred peas & fruit also and has done well with that. She has been a bit under the weather & had her vaccines 4 days ago which may currently not helping. My dr claims Prilosec isn't weight sensitive but my pharmacist claims it is so I'm concerned! Any suggestions? Thanks for any advice on the matter, Regan

Hi, for prevacid the dose is 7.5 mg daily for under 10 kg, 15 mg once or twice daily for 10-30 kg; so although it is weight sensitive there is a broad range there. If she gets the 3 mg/ml susp then she should be fine on 3 ml daily. A vaccine can really compound things for a week or so after the shot. If there is any post nasal drip there then that may be causing the vomitting. As you may have experienced with other teeth, eating may not be the best time for a teething child. I would wait until the cold and the effects of the vaccine wear off before changing anything right now. If a change was done then the mg / day seem to be fine so another drug may be needed. Just don't jump to that right now though.
