I was just wondering whether anyone knew whether the pro-motility drugs (he's on Domperidone... if you haven't heard of it it's probably because it's a UK based one!) affects the effectiveness of omeprazole. For example, if I was to give Dominic his omeprazole mixed in apple juice then 15 minutes later his Domperidone, and then half an hour later fed him, would the Domperidone interfere with the process that the omeprazole goes through? Or could it affect the coating of the pellets, or would the gut motility increasing be a problem... trying to fit all the drugs in is a nightmare!
Also where does the gaviscon fit into all of this... does that affect either drug?
Many thanks!

hi and welcome to IRD!. Naomi is on erythromycin for motility and omperazole. I normally give them together and haven't notice or even wondered if one affects the other. I am not sure....Rachel, where are you?!?

With motility drugs you do have to be careful when you give them in relation to other medications since they empty the stomach. You could be emptying another medication along with the stomach contents.

I don't know, but you could post in ask the phramacist and I am sure he could help you out.

I am not sure either - sorry:sad3:
Hopefully someone will chime in, or like Katey said, you could always ask the pharm on the boards.
BTW- I love the pics in your sig - your kids are beautiful.

If you are giving the Domperidone 15 minutes after the Omeprazole then you are probably emptying the Omeprazole out of his system before it gets a chance to work. Omeprazole works on a time release system. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about the best time to give them.

Thanks for the replies, currently I'm not giving them together (too desperate to make sure the omeprazole works to it's full effect), but I struggle to fit all the meds in!
I'll repost the question on the other board, thank you x

This was a similar question posted in the ask the pharmacist section. Hope that helps.
Gaviscon will affect the omeprazole, so it shouldn't be given an hour either side of it to be safe, it should be fine with domperidone.
