View Full Version : Reflux interfer with normal life?
Does reflux interfer with your older child's life?
Mag can't play on a sit n spin, spring horse, swing, tire swing, spin in a circle, anything with rapid movement without getting sick. A friend pointed out to me earlier this week that it's not normal for a toddler to not be able to have a temper tantrum without retching, arching their back and neck and vomitting. She said I don't realize it because it's what we live with but that it's not normal. She feels that Maggie is missing out on a lot.
What do you think?
Christine 01-11-2007, 12:50 PM I don't have a toddler - but at 5 mo old - I can see things are different. I see my friends playing with their babies, tipping them upsided down, letting them jump around on thier lap. I let Henry do that stuff sometimes - but I know he and I will pay!!!!!
Emily M 01-11-2007, 05:20 PM ((hug)) Lena, I can't answer either, as my girls were never refluxers, but I'm sure that it does.
Poor Maggie, the good thing is, she doesn't realize it, you know? So, is she missing out? If she doesn't know any different?

She does realize it. We have to take toys away and stop her from playing on some playground equipment. She doesn't understand why though.
i dont have anlder refluxer so i dont know
I supose on a positive notwe she does not know any diferent, i feel bad for you that your friend ahs comented on this it is not like you can do anything about it, im sure she meant well but i think you are wel aware of your childs limitatios and the extent of her reflux and i supose in a way you and maggie have learnt to deal with it

AvasMommy 01-12-2007, 01:36 PM I don't know if you consider Ava older, but she can't handle any kind of movement...swing, carousel thing at the mall, the train that went around Santa's workshop at the mall. I agree that our kids definitely miss out on a lot...they have soooo much to deal with!:sad5:
For maiya, the meds make her very very dizzy and nauseaous, so any vestibular stim is a no go. She does not enjoy the park at all. She also has no energy as she is up nights, so play is poor also. Socially is a no go either because we spend days eating and taking a 2 hour nap. She , i feel , needs a very quiet and predictable environment. So she has missed out on everything, and so have we. I get very sad watching other kids, but then again, we have such a close bond that only moms of sick kids can understand.
tannisca 01-24-2007, 05:47 PM Eric is forever throwing up if he runs around in a circle, even for only a minute or so. He has a very weak stomach and tends to get queasy very quickly. I never related to this reflux...interesting! :)
Vicky 01-30-2007, 12:04 AM The absolute WORST WORST WORST thing is Max can't laugh too much or else he gets the hiccups, retches, gags, and ultimately pukes (or dry heaves since he is J tube fed)....heart breaking having to watch him having a fun time and then get the giggles and then puke...
