Hi

I am actually asking this question for a friend...
Her 4yr old ds did not react well to any of the PPI's...mostly b/m issues
He is currently on pepcid and is having some reflux issues...he is on an aggressive dose for his weight
She is very reluctant to put him back on a PPI....do you think it would make any sense to TRY zantac/axid?
I understand they are all the same type of drug, but my thoughts were different people react differently to certain meds
Just wondering what your thoughts were on this topic, or what feedback you've received regarding pepcid, zantac and axid..
My ds is on pepcid and i like the fact that it tastes good (compared to zantac) but hate dealing with the potency issue and even though the med is supposed to be good for 30days...it seems stronger when I get it filled and seems to loose potency before the expiration date (that could all be in my head?)

Thanks again SO MUCH!

HI, axid is a drug I hardly see used anymore, mainly because of the popularity of zantac and then of pepcid. It is true that if one of the three is not working then it might be worth a try on another but as long as the max dose is used for both, then the chance that the third or tagamet would work is slight. Sometimes the gi problems tend to go away as the body adjusts to the ppi and without knowing the specifics (i.e. maybe try twice daily instead of once daily dosing) I would lean back towards the PPI's
Thanks, Graham Ph.C.
