My poor little stinker was coughing so much last night. Not at first, but she woke up about an hour after I put her down and coughed on and off for quite a while before falling back asleep :smt087 The only thing I can think of that may have brought this on, was, we were over my parents house on Sunday--almost all day long, and they have cats (don't know if shes allergic or not, but allergies do run in the family, mainly with hubby) and my dad smokes cigars, not in front of her but in the basement and my FIL came over Monday and he smokes (outside but then the smell is still on his clothes when he comes back in). Shes on albuterol and flovent 2 times a day every day, don't know if I should bring out the nebulizer again or just give her the albuterol 3 times a day (they are inhalors)

I'm so sorry to hear Linda-Marie is having troubles, Shanna!

I have allergy-sensitive asthma and cats and smoke will set me off every time!

Did you give her the albuterol when she woke up coughing? I would continue your usual regimen, but add extra albuterol on an as needed basis when she seems to have a flare of her asthma. Albuterol generally begins to take effect about 5 minutes after administration and the effects can last up to 4-6 hours.
Hope she's feeling better soon!!

Ok, gonna try the nebulizer tonight before bed to see if that helps her sleep any better...poor baby!!! Hope we can get this back under control before her little brother comes along next week :sad5:

with the combintation on her exposures its hard to say if she is having allergic reactions to the cats or not. I would use the neb, like rspr8r said, albuterol has a fast onset time and last for a while.
I am a bigger fan of xopenex myself, I have seen a lot better response that lasted a couple ours longer than albuterol with less side effects. In fact all the children that I treat in the er get xopenex. But if albuterol works for her not to worry...
I am also willing to say it could be a bug... there are several going around this time of year. If it keeps it up I would take her to the dr.
I also agree about the extra albuterol.. extra doses will not cause any harm
good luck

thanks for the reply...a cold also crossed my mind, shes caught so many of them from her 2 cousins in the past and she just got over one. Just odd how the cough was bad last night and the night before after being around her grandparents over the weekend..Would really hate for it to come to the point where we just dont' take her over my parents house or tell my FIL that unless he stops smoking near our house (or even on the way over to our house) then he cannot come over. After being told she had asthma, he swore he would give up smoking since he did not want her having another attack...needless to say, that was short-lived. Also, shes never had a bad reaction to either meds, which I'm grateful for. Thing is, she had the albuterol about a half hour before bed and still was coughing last night, maybe the nebulizer will work better..:banghead:
