Has anybody heard of a chiropractor being able to help a baby with GERD? I am taking my 12 week old next week. I have read some info that it does help. But if some of you had first hand experience it would help.

View Full Version : Chiropractor for a reflux baby blessedw3 12-29-2006, 11:24 AM Has anybody heard of a chiropractor being able to help a baby with GERD? I am taking my 12 week old next week. I have read some info that it does help. But if some of you had first hand experience it would help. Ella 12-29-2006, 11:42 AM I honestly think that some chiropractors are able to relieve the symptoms of reflux. I don't think they cure it though. I took my daughter to one for a few sessions, but she still is refluxing. May be I should have been more presistant and take her once a week, like he suggested. Emily takes her son to one. She'll be able to give you a better guidance. One thing is for sure - it helps me a great deal with bad back. Emily M 12-29-2006, 05:24 PM Yes, when we first started we went once a week, then after he saw that his back was setting better it dropped to twice a month, and now it is monthly. In the beginning I could tell when it was time to go back, he would start spitting up again. Now, he is 100% better, but I can't give all of the credit to the chiro. we accidentally went off his med. a couple of weeks ago and all of his symptoms came back. It can't hurt to try though. ;-) scarlet 12-30-2006, 07:13 AM I am not so sure personally, but there are people who swear by it, here is a link to a search on chiropractors, so you can check on old threads. http://www.infantrefluxdisease.com/forums/search.php?searchid=182354 Hope that helps. mommytothree 12-30-2006, 08:05 AM I am sure it can be helpful but I have always heard you should be careful with little ones and them being adjusted because they are still growing. Amy 12-30-2006, 08:08 AM I think every case is diferent i spoke to mikis team of drs about it and the general opinion of them was that if the spine is ot of alighnment from the birth or the way the baby was in the uterus, or particulay twins due to the postiotion in the uterus that it can help, But they also said that in a lot of reflux cases it has nothing to do with the spine and more due to the digestive system and in that case there is less likely to be any diference made by a chiropractic unfortunately that was the case with miki so we had nno luck we only took her once and she puked all over the table and apspirated whilst she was beiong worked on this was not by any fault of the chiro just that mikis digestive system is some what un satisfactory. how ever i am not stating this as fact as it is just what we was informed by mikis drs and was being disgust in relation to miki not every refluxer, and i do know of people that have had succes with it but i just though i would let you know what we was told Emily M 12-30-2006, 08:46 AM very good points Amy. Poor Miki. :( I do know that you can't just go one time, but after that, I don't blame you for not going back. Medical doctors are going to be totally against it, because here, chiro. don't believe in medicine, vaccines, etc. etc. It makes sense, but then, after we were off meds. that one time and Jack's reflux went sky high, I was kind of dissapointed. :angry7: Amy 12-30-2006, 08:52 AM I love chiropractors i went to one for my back for years an he worked wonders, I would have been willing to take nmiki back but the chiro basicly thogh tmiki was out of his league and the she best only be dealt wiht at the childrens hospital, and that he did not think hers was spine realeted either, that acualy made me have even more respect fotr him as he was willing to admit when he was out of his depth I actualy think miki scarred the poor man half to death Emily M 12-30-2006, 08:55 AM I love chiropractors i went to one for my back for years an he worked wonders, I would have been willing to take nmiki back but the chiro basicly thogh tmiki was out of his league and the she best only be dealt wiht at the childrens hospital, and that he did not think hers was spine realeted either, that acualy made me have even more respect fotr him as he was willing to admit when he was out of his depth I actualy think miki scarred the poor man half to death WOW... that is amazing, our chiro. We are med. free since Dec. 14th. The ped. wasn't thrilled but he has gotten more relief from it than all the meds. we've tried. Debbie 01-08-2007, 12:55 AM WOW... that is amazing, our chiro. I guess, is cocky and "knows" that he can fix Jack. :rolling: that's ok, Jack does great and the chiro. is HOT! :evil4: How is Jacks health in general...cause Chiros' tend to claim that children that get adjustments don't get sick...ears,tummy bugs, strep...? I think from some of your past posts he does get sick??? Why did he need adjustments for his back? BTW I loved going to my Chiro....insurance ran out:sad3: Emily M 01-08-2007, 09:55 AM How is Jacks health in general...cause Chiros' tend to claim that children that get adjustments don't get sick...ears,tummy bugs, strep...? I think from some of your past posts he does get sick??? Why did he need adjustments for his back? BTW I loved going to my Chiro....insurance ran out:sad3: Yes Debbie, he does get sick. But, every time I take him, it's usually been a while since we had been, and he will have an ear infection, the chiro. will adjust his neck and say "well, he really needed that" so, I don't know. I will never know I suppose. There is a place in the spine, (T-4) that affects the sphincter that allows the food/acid to come up. If he is adjusted in his back, then this puts it "back into place" so to speak and no more acid. Or, that's the theory. |
