First off Thank you so much offering your knowledge to this site!

My non-refluxer is 6 years old and normally very healthy. In 2004 we moved from Ohio to Virginia and ever sense he has had a horrible deep cough in the winter only. It's usually at night, first thing in the morning or if he's outside playing. It's only short coughing fits a couple times a day. At it's worst it makes him vomit. Every ped we have seen has said it was allergies. They've never heard any wheezing at all. We've tried zyrtec, claritin, singulair, advair and I believe flonase. Nothing has helped. He was sent home from school 12 times last winter due to his coughing fits. Do you have any tips or ideas as to what we can do to make him more comfortable?

It sounds like you've hit most of the major allergy drugs. Have you done allergy testing? It sounds like controlling his exposure to the allergen may be the biggest help. Flonase and Advair if used daily would probably help as well as albuterol or Xopenex (all are available as inhalers) for the times that he is actively coughing.

We've never done allergy testing. I will bring it up to the ped though. Thank you!
