OK...my little monkey (aged 3) will not take his Prevacid suspension, even flavored. We have tried mixing it with stuff, and he will not take it at all. We then switched to the Prevaid capsules mixed with yogurt. We told him they were sprinkles. He hates them and is now refusing to eat yogurt. He started chewing them and then he spit them all out in the toilet last night. I am at a total loss. They don't make the solutabs in canada apparently, so I have no access to them whatsoever. I am sure they would be way more effective for him. We are going to try liquid Losec now to see if that makes a difference, flavored differently than the Prevacid. Hopefully, that will help. I am just getting so frustrated as I honestly am at a loss as to how to get this into him. He knows he has to take it, but says he doesn't like it and won't take it all. He begs for Tylenol or Motrin though as he loves them! What a little monkey!!! Thanks!

can they used the same flavoring Tylenol or Motrin have? I know for Peanut, she hated taking her pepcid flavored as grape, but as soon as they flavored it cherry (like her tylenol) she can't get enough of the stuff! She actually cried for it.

I had the same quesition - I know there are tons of flavorings. We use chocobase for Prevacid. I have tasted it and it tastes like choc milk - Henry loves it. Plus since it is basic and not acidic, I don't worry that it is breaking down the medicine.

I called the nurse practioner back again and she recommended another pharmacy as they flavor things differently and sometimes this can be better. I called them, and they apparently cannot flavor Prevacid cherry or strawberry as this is too acidic and can render the medicine useless. They said he could have apple or banana. I went for the banana as it might be more bland tasting than the apple. I really hope he will take this as there are no other options. I might have to just keep forcing it on him, but I hate to do that. I will give this a try. Thanks for all of your wonderful advice.

Be very careful though, if it is a compound, not a suspension, but where they crush the beads down, etc. etc. some of the flavorings will cause the solution to be unstable.
I wish that you could get the solutabs, they are soooo easy and I bet you anything that he would like them. ((hugs)) hope that you find something that works. ;-)

Can you maybe try ordering solutabs online?

I never even thought about ordering online....how does that work? Do I need a prescription?

By the way, we got the new stuff.....banana....well it smells like banana but is positively horrible. The pharmacist said that they have to add bicarbonate so that it is effective until it hits the area it needs to in order to help him, and that no flavoring will get rid of that horrible taste. Needless to say, he hates it! We are now two bottles in at $100 a piece and it is an absolute fight to get him to take his medication. He just cries and cries when we have to do it. My husband and I have to hold him down and force it into his mouth as far as we can so some of it goes down his throat (otherwise he spits 100% of it out). This way, he is getting about 50% in at most, but at least it is something. It is just so horribe, and we feel so badly that we have to force this on him. I have tried convincing him that he needs it to make him feel better, but he says it makes him sick and he doesn't like it and just cries. Poor little guy!! I just feel horrible putting him through this. We put him back on his Nasonex last night (finally could after his surgery) and he slept through until 5:30 (went from waking up 5 times or so a night since being off of it). It was wonderful!!! At least I got some sleep finally. I just have to say that I HATE reflux!!!! I HATE it!!! Ok....got that off my chest. Thanks for listening. For now, we are just going to have to force the meds on him as I see now other way. It just sucks......thanks for listening.

Oh, that sucks.

Ordering online, sometimes you don't need a script. Sometimes you do, but you could get a script from your doc and then order them from a pharmacy off of the internet. That way, it would be a US pharmacy, or any other ones for that matter.
