I am trying to figure out if my daughter is exherting symptoms of DGE and I would like someone to explain to me what exactly it is.......... you know the internet is not that helpful in explaining things.

That can explain it better, and faster;-) , than I can, but hopefully one of the other mom's will chime in soon.

This may sound silly, but does DGE affect their bowels?

My daughter has very weird bowel patterns. There are some days when she will not even have a movement and then when she does it is FULL of seeds. She doesn't have diarrhea and she doesn't seem constipated. And she is not breastfed, I just thought that by 3 months of age she would not be having seedy bowel movements.

I just thought that this might be a part of the delayed emptying thing, but I guess I could be wrong. Help?

seeds are not part of DGE. My Dr. has basically said the only things I should be worried about are: hard poop, runny poop, mucous in poop or blood in poop. Basically anything else goes. Don't worry about the seeds as long as she's pooping comfortably and none of the above apply, she's fine. If you're still worried speak to your Ped. about it. Good luck, hun.

DGE can be effected by their stools in that if they are constipated then it is going to make DGE worse because everything below is backed up.For Grace she goes through days of diarrhea and I am talking 17+ diapers a day but in a flip of an hour she will become constipated and has at times ended up with a partial obstruction. We now know, which we did now know for about 18 months that is a result of her Cipo and other motility problems.

IMO,if you are seeing stool problems, keep a journal of it for about a month or so then show your GI.If things continue to be bad it may be time to see a Motility specialist because in some children the main problem can be below and the DGE can be secondary and only motility testing can tell you that for sure.

Please feel free to PM me if I can help you at all.....I have been down this road and I know it is not easy.Hope things improve soon.
