I decided to wean out of sheer frustration. Johnny was FTT due to severe reflux. Had teh fundo last week and while in the hospital on 24 cal formula managed to gain a WHOLE pound. It was awesome. He was so happy and smiley. Since comming home I have been nursing on demand again and giving him formula after he was done (usually like 45 on one breast) just to make sure he was getting enough. He managed to loose the entire pound. I decided that I have a compulsion that leads me to "need" to know wht he is taking in. Now I am really re thinking my decision...I am so freaking sore. I don't remember having major soreness with the last two this is worse than the pain in the beginning

I know how you feel punkin. I just found it so much easier to do the formula. I had to stop because I dried out, but had hired a wet nurse who refused to follow the MSPI diet that she was supposed to according to the contract, but it was just too much trouble. Good luck, hun? Are you trying cool cabbage leaves on your...hmmm..."chest"? (I don't want to offend anyone) That helped me a ton!! A nice tight bra is also great. I know you just want to let them free 'cause they hurt, but the tighter the better. It'll stop in a few days.

Ugh...I remember that too! Soooo painful...and I had an infection along with it! The OB/GYN told me to pump a bit, just so I would not get further engorged...so I pumped for just a couple of minutes. Long enough for some relief, but not long enough to generate much milk, kwim?

You could also pump for a while, and give him the milk by bottle...just an idea, but I know pumping is a lot of work when you are also caring for a little one.

Hope it passes quickly for you!

When Ava decided to wean herself, she gave me a nice "going away present"...she bit my left nipple so hard that I saw stars and actually cried. A few days later, I thought my whole left breast was going to fall off...from just below the nipple to my chest wall, it was so sore, so hot, that I was sure she had broken the skin and that I had a massive infection...LoL, I was picturing amputation! Since that all passed, I think I'm drying up (my milk is ridiculously thick...LoL...TMI, but it's like the stupid egg nog I love so much!:sign11: ), but I haven't had much pain surprisingly, since everyone told me that weaning was going to be much more painful for me than for her. I've just been wearing a tight bra and a sports bra at night, and I haven't had any problems yet, knock on wood!

Hope you feel better soon!

I was pumping for a while before I gave up. I just went from pumping four times a day, to two and then to one and then none. I had one day that I was huge and kind of sore, but it was not that bad. I was surprised how fast the milk went away. After just one day of only pumping twice I only got 2 oz. Maybe if you try it that way it will be better.

Sorry that it did not work out for you. I was really bumbed when I finally gave up the idea of breast feeding. Sebastian would not nurse, becuase my let down was so fast. I pumped for a month and then when the whole MSPI thing started it was just too much. The pumping was hard enough without having to add the diet too. It was hard letting go of the idea of nursing my baby, but it was the right choice for us.

I hope you will feel better soon.

Sage and peppermint tea will dry you right up. I had to wean Evan to Neocate and before I found the tea I cried a lot b/c of the pain. Hugs!
