I graduated from the University of Missouri in 1996 with a Bachelor of Health Science, Respiratory Therapy degree. I earned my Registry credential in 1996 and my Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist credential in 1999 through the National Board for Respiratory Care. I hold a professional license through the State of Missouri. I am employed at Boone Hospital Center and helped transition the Level 2 Special Care Nursery to a full-fledged Level 4 NICU (or as we call it ICN or Intensive Care Nursery) in the fall of 1996, developing policies and procedures along the way. I continue to staff the ICN.
In June 2006, my daughter, Brenna, was born at 37 weeks , 4 lb 14 oz, due to a fetal-maternal hemorrhage, and met all of Mommy's coworkers! She was in the ICN for 6 days for blood transfusions due to severe anemia from the hemorrhage. This certainly gave me a new perspective on life in the ICN! After just about a month at home, she developed an allergy to her milk-based formula, with rashes, vomiting, the whole works. We switched to soy-based formula for 2 weeks and her symptoms got even worse. We then switched to Nutramigen, which relieved many of her symptoms, although, she still vomited and stopped gaining weight (@ 10 lbs) because of it, and the colic never went away. We added Prevacid, and she was a new baby! She stilled vomited, but not as much, and no more fussing! Finally, in October we starting thickening her bottles and the race was on! (We had held off on rice due to her milk/soy intolerance). She gained 3.5 pounds in just 5 weeks! She stills spits a little, but life is so much happier at our house. I thank the members of this group for their support - there is such a wealth of knowledge here to share!
Please ask me anything. I'm here to share what I can. Please remember, I can't diagnose, only give an opinion. Please consult your physician before trying something new.
