View Full Version : Again!!!!
hpaterniti 12-15-2006, 10:39 PM Well.....Rylie started to cough at night yesterday:hissyfit: . So I have started her on her nebulizer with Albuterol. She actually started after we got home from datcare........she takes about an hour nap and she coughed the entire time, which I was surprised that she was able to even sleep. Anyways.....when she woke up I decided that I would start the Albuterol to try to deter it from getting as bad as it has been. I am not sure if it is exactly what I should be doing, but the pulmologist said to start the Albuterol as soon as she starts to cough:sad5: .
We are getting a family pic on Sunday, so I am hoping that she is ok for that one:sad5: . We have not had a family pic since Dylan was 18 mons old. I really would like to start doing it every year now that we have Rylie. Anyways.....the asthma, I guess is just here to stay huh? We actually have an appointment with the ENT over my winter break:smt041 , so I am going to talk to her about the constant runny nose and how when she is put on antibiotic, her nose gets better for a while and then approximately 5 days after stopping the meds her nose starts again.
Now with the asthma in gear, I have noticed that the reflux is flaring up too, which I know is part of the whole. I hope that I am doing the right thing?
sixdogssixcats 12-16-2006, 04:48 AM Holly,
If you're noticing chronic problems, starting albuterol is probably the best thing you can do.
Is her nose just running, or is she sick? Clear nasal discharge is indicative of allergies and antibiotics won't help. Good luck with the photo session!
Emily M 12-16-2006, 09:02 AM Yes, good thinking w/the Albuterol.
I hope that it is a short lived thing.
My girls sound croupy this morning,I"m praying that it's not croup, because that is all that Jack needs. I won't sleep for days if he gets the croup. :sad5:
Shaes Grammy 12-16-2006, 06:28 PM  Holly, poor Rylie.
I have asthma and last year it was out of control and just awful. I coughed all the time. This season it is finally under control. I take QVar, if I miss even one dose at night; I will wake having a difficult time breathing. So I am sure just getting the asthma under control will help the reflux.
 I hope Rylie is better today and the nebulizer is helping.
Good luck with the pictures tomorrow and be sure to post them.
best wishes
Jean
I think you're doing the right thing. Not all asthmatics wheeze, they cough (like me, I've never wheezed.) I think the albuterol is definitely the way to go. Sounds like allergies to me, too. Maybe if you can find what she is reacting to, you can help control the asthma that way. Allergies and asthma go hand in hand. If this is becoming chronic, your pulmonologist may want to start an inhaled steroid like Pulmicort, Flovent, or Q-Var like Jean. I hope your pictures go well and Rylie starts to feel better. She's a beautiful girl!:-)
hpaterniti 12-16-2006, 09:12 PM Hello ladies!!! Thank you for all of your kind words to me. She is on Flovent twice a day (110mg) and I think that this may be good. I think that I started the Albuterol, I think that she is getting better and may possibly be helping her. Even my husband seems to be thinking the same way. And I do think that she has allergies......Dylan has them and so do I......my husband had them when he was younger.
Lindasmom 01-02-2007, 10:19 AM OMG...sounds like I wrote this, I swear, I was just going to ask these questions!!! With Linda-Maries cough, its normally not all night long, mainly when I first put her down and when she starts to wake up, and a few times during the day. Shes on Albuterol & Flovent (inhalors) 2 times a day both of which I give her right before bed..oh and we have an air purifier in her room that runs all night long too...so I'm doing everything I can think of. Might need to get out the nebulizer and try that at night before bed, see if it makes any difference. And allergies run in our family too....sigh.. no snot, just sneezes and rubs her nose a lot:banghead: She has a follow-up appointment with the pulmanologist the end of this month, so we'll see what she has to say.
hpaterniti 01-02-2007, 05:34 PM Linda~ I would definitely bring up these symptoms to your Ped. Pulmologist and see what he/she says.
