View Full Version : I really, really love...
AvasMommy 12-14-2006, 07:19 PM our feeding therapist...she's just fantastic! Ava just adores her, and is so eager to please her, that I really think we'll make some quick progress...she's got such a great rapport with kids.
And I love her too, LOL...it's like a half hour of therapy for me! She listens, and really understands the frustration that comes with reflux...the majority of her feeding therapy patients are reflux kids. Sooooo, I'm going to bring her some brochures on Tuesday...she was so glad to hear that IRD exists, b/c she knows how stressful and devastating this can be for families.
Just wanted to post something positive!
Linds, that's just great. I am so happy your therapist is nice and you get to vent away and she listens. That's priceless! No, let me correct myself, it's BOGO, right?
AvasMommy 12-14-2006, 07:27 PM LOL, totally! Like a "therapy for two" special!
sixdogssixcats 12-14-2006, 07:31 PM Lindsay, that's just great! I love Catherine's speech therapist as much for me as for her, lol. She listens to all my off-the-wall theories and treatments and usually at least has heard of what I might be talking about.
that good that ava and you like her as you said ava wants to please her hopeully that will mean she will eat soon
AvasMommy 12-14-2006, 07:53 PM Thanks guys! Lesley, glad to hear you use yours as a sounding board, too!
Becky in NM 12-14-2006, 08:16 PM That's really great, Lindsay!
Daniel was never the type who cared about pleasing people, at least when I'm around. He actually started to cooperate for his ST during hippotherapy (during which I sat in the waiting room), and I hear at school he's fabulous at following directions and loves to be praised.
Emily M 12-14-2006, 09:20 PM WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! That is awesome Linds! :party21: :party0049: :party21: :party0049: :party21: :party0049:
scarlet 12-15-2006, 07:10 AM That is awesome Lindsay, it really makes a difference when you click with a therapist, I really hope that she can change Avas feeding habits around and give you some counselling at the same time LOL
AvasMommy 12-15-2006, 07:26 AM Yep, she's awesome! And it's just soooo cute how much Ava likes her...when they swallow something, like a drink, they make a big production of saying "Ahhhhh"...it's soooo cute! Ava starts doing it in the waiting room! I don't know what kinda Jedi mind trick she's got going, but it seems to be working pretty well! She says she can't believe that Ava's the same kid she was at our eval, when the Gerber fruit got stuck in our wrap...she's sooooo much more comfy just being around food now. We wear play clothes now, lol, since the pudding finger painting was such a hit!
Yeah, it's slow progress, and I know I shouldn't be thinking ahead...I should just be focusing on the here and now...but I can't help these visions of having a "Bye-Bye Button" party for her birthday, in May. Is that unrealistic, anyone? I mentioned the possibility, and she just kinda glanced over it, so I think she thinks I'm (over)Positive Polly, but hey, a mom can dream, can't she?
Do we even have anybody weaned from a tube? Christyn's Allie, I think...is there anyone else? How long does the weaning itself take? She told me we've got lots of work to do, since Ava still only gets about 100 cals by mouth...then we've got to document her weight, gains and losses, and see if she can keep it steady. Oh well, just a thought...I'm not rushing anything...as long as she's gaining and growing and thriving, I'm ok w/ it...I just like to dream!
kimber 12-15-2006, 09:36 AM Great news Lindsey
I'm sure Ava will do much better in therapy because of it
Keep us posted
munkeesmama 12-22-2006, 03:35 AM YAYAYAY, I hope that Ava makes some great strides with her and awesome that you click as well
